It means nothing until we can reach the final four or even the final 8 as often as UCONN does

You are trying to put lipstick on a pig

parity in women's basketbal

The world has never seen a sport with less parity than NCAA women’s basketball. I havent Watched a game in 20 years but can nail their bracket challenge by picking the lower seeds.

All 4 teams in the Final Four have players that can flat out shoot the ball. Each team made huge shot after huge shot. We have athletic players but no pure shooters. I’m curious to see how State does after Vivians and the big girl are gone.

I thought it was interesting that 3 of the 4 coaches in the final 4 are men. Both games last night were really competitive games. We are so far away from being competitive. It’s sad how far we have fallen. Notre Dame has lost 5 players to ACL injuries and are still playing for the National championship.

I will withhold serious judgement about recruiting until after 2019 class.

I am not sure it makes sense to withhold judgement at this point unless you can point to a systemic change in the coach or program to make you reserve judgement. Maybe it is the career assistant coach from TN that can make a difference. But the track record here at LSU for the head coach in recruiting seems pretty clear. After 2017 she needed a comparable 2018 class. It hasn’t happened.

The performance on the court this year has been an improvement. But if there is a step back next year, the trigger has to be pulled on a change.

Regarding parity: I think it is only marginally better. But parity doesn’t make it easier for a program like LSU. It makes it harder with more competition. Less parity with our history and alumni is a much better situation for LSU with a coach who is very good on the floor and recruiting.

State's bench and incoming class is full of 4 and 5 stars and the big girl will be back next year. State has never had a McDonald's All American and is beating teams with 5 or more McDonald's All Americans on their roster. Schaefer can flat out coach. If A&M doesn't steal Schaefer from State when Blair retires, State will be real good for the foreseeable future.

State will take a dip next season and will not go undefeated in the SEC next year like this year. Most of their incoming recruits are posts and will take some time to develop. They still return McCowan, Holmes, Bibby, Danberry, and even Taylor who redshirted. When you have Vivians, who was left off McDonalds, and a solid post it doesn't matter how many others you have as long as they play their roles. Schaefer is a great motivator and defensive specialist but he isn't reinventing the wheel with this weave and four out one in offense but it works when you have the pieces.

State hired Schaefer for $275K at a time when we were being told the going price of a championship-caliber coach was $700K (what we shelled out for Caldwell). He’s completely out-performed our coach, and even with two enormous raises, he still makes less than Caldwell.

Um... don’t use big words when the rest of your post is riddled with grammatical errors like using parentheses instead of commas but then using a comma anyways

I'm assuming you really did know (because most people know the men and women go on roughly at the same time), but

But most importantly, women’s basketball is fun to watch when it’s down to four teams or LSU is winning.

Sports are products of entertainment and until the WNBA can fill arenas with 15,000 a night, or pay their athletes more than a entry level data clerk, not many people, men or women, will be interested enough to follow it.

I honestly don’t check the women’s games unless they come up on Espns score ticker. I thought when I saw that score, it was the championship game.

My point is that, although the comment wasn’t needed, that person could easily be telling the truth. Or maybe they were just trolling you because they knew you would go off

Vic is top ten in Salary and received a raise prior to this season. He makes more than Nikki. A quick Google search would have told you that.

Well the reality is those teams had consecutive years of good recruiting classes

You can't have one good one, then 2 or 3 mediocre/bad ones in a row and expect to compete at that level, just won't happen

MSU just picked up a transfer from UCONN, one of the top shooting guards in the country

Andra- Espinoza hunter

MSU also has a top 2018 class, two 5 star posts players and a top wing player out of Virginia I think

I imagine they will be fine, they were already well coached but they do have talent on their way over the next few years.

Also their top recruit from last year who was a former national team member redshirted this season for personal reasons

So like many LSU WBB fans, I naively overlooked Central Michigan. I was more so looking forward to Ohio State who I thought we could beat and advance to a Sweet 16 at least. Central Michigan (and MAC in general) was obviously under-ranked based not only on their "close" victory over us, but their domination of Ohio State (who I still think we would have beat). Ultimately, I think had we gotten a "normal" 11 seed, we would have at least advanced to the Sweet 16 (but of course, I can't really back it up with anything substantive, but I'm sure there are plenty WBB fans that would agree).

But what does previously undefeated UCONN losing in the final four for the second straight year mean for LSU? Well, I think tonight proves again there is much parity in women's basketball. Mississippi State upset them last year, and this year Notre Dame upsets them to advance to the championship to face, who else?, but Mississippi State. I liked how we played Mississippi State this year for most of the game, even before Ayana Mitchell really found her footing and we started playing some of our best basketball. Even more impressive given how State is heavy on senior starters and we relied mostly (minus Raigyne) on 1st or 2nd year players. Yes, we lost to them, and yes we loss to Texas A&M in the SEC tournament right before we could face them again. But ultimately, this game is seeming more and more about matchups and showing the parity that truly exists. All our losses were pretty close, and it shows that even with a young team, we could hang with anyone (even when we had a rough offensive game...our defense was pretty solid).

So ultimately, the fact that there is far more parity than most seem to acknowledge really speaks to the future of WBB, but also LSU. Our heavy freshmen/sophomore team can do some serious damage next year if they put in work in the off season, which I expect to occur.

This is not a pro-Nikki post (nor will it be anti-Nikki post). I think the young players she has now have GREAT potential. However, if they greatly under-perform their capabilities next year AND she doesn't secure a good recruiting class for 2019, I will certainly not be pro-Nikki. Based on what I have seen this past year with what she had, I am cautiously optimistic. However, like many, I believe she is a great on-court coach/can develop players, but have been more reserved on her recruiting. Class of 2017 was good (and makes me optimistic for the future) but class of 2019 is crucial following a lackluster 2018.

Bruh, I couldn't agree with you more. We do have the potential to be an even better team moving forward than this past season. But the recruiting MUST get better in order for it to continue. If not, I won't see a reason to keep coach Caldwell past the end of her contract.
