Mike is the master of the obvious. He basically regurgitates what he hears on ESPN and/or Fox sports

About Dak Prescott

quote:

Mike: It's urban myth that LSU did not recruit him as a quarterback.

That's going to hurt some moron egos on here who were so sure lsu didn't offer him at qb

Good interview with mike. Nothing ground breaking or stuff that everyone couldn't see already but put a lot of things out there.

No question, but it summarizes all that some of us know and see. Just thought I would share. Glad to see some of the "talk" about Prescott and the recruiting "put to bed". Love my Tigers, and been a fan for a while (I'm 57), but man it hurts to watch what we do on Saturdays. Here in the melting pot of the SEC in Hotlanta, I hear it from all the other SEC fans. It ain't easy being us.

You've got what you've got at quarterback. Part of the problem is, as you've mentioned in your Mail Call, the inability of the staff to adapt its scheme to the talent level at quarterback. Guys like Matt Flynn, Jamarcus Russell, Jarrett Lee and Zack Mettenberger were drop-back "pro-style" quarterbacks. That is not what Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris are. They are "pistol" or "spread-option" quarterbacks and they have had trouble in a major way being that traditional drop-back signal-caller. You just can't figure that talent will adjust to your scheme. If you want a drop-back, "pro-style" quarterback, you better start recruiting the Texas, California and Arizona high school ranks because that is where you find them today, not in Louisiana. One thing Frank Wilson, who coordinates recruiting, may have to do also is get a plan in place to go after the top JUCO "drop-back" quarterback, if that is what the staff seeks in a signal-caller.

Why we have such a hard time adjusting our scheme to fit our personnel is beyond me

To be honest, this has really been my only major complaint during the Miles tenure.

I honestly do not care what style of offense LSU runs. Pro-style, spread, wing T...zero fricks given. All I want is that whichever one they run for it to look like they are running the correct system for the personnel they themselves have recruited into the program, and to do it like they have been running it for more than a week.

To this day, I still honestly do not know what our offense does. We recruit polar opposite QB's and then, astonishingly, seem to put them into some kind of hybrid offense that occasionally has guys like Mettenberger run the option and guys like Jennings under center a ton. If you want a pro-style offense, recruit guys that fit your system and run exclusively that. If you want to run the spread, go get those guys and stick with it. But...and I can't stress this enough...I have no clue how you can constantly bring in guys that require you to force them into your system in order to work. It almost feels like we are taking the best available off the board rather than the best available FOR OUR SYSTEM.

Don't hate me, but I actually have been a Les Miles fan for quite some time, but I think it's Miles being hard headed and too old school, run the football and play great defense. The game has changed and Miles hasn't. Sad.

I think you meant to say "Sunshine Pumper":

quote:

Mike: Les is not going anywhere. His general philosophy works, but he has to do a better job of adjusting it to the personnel on hand.

Is your sarcasm meter broken? He's spot on, but post that same stuff on here, and the Less apologists will call you negative
