CRESTVIEW -A house that had been entered in a Parade of Homes event was vandalized, and a 13-year-old boy was arrested as the culprit.
On June 3 an Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputy was called to the house on Live Oak Church Road, where the builder showed him the damage and said the house was supposed to be in a Parade of Homes event the very next day. The cost of the damage was estimated at $11,730.
Purple and gold spray paint had been used on numerous windows and doors, and a hand-made, hand-scraped garage door had "F--- your mom" spray-painted on it. Large rocks had been thrown through one window and used to break another window and the front door.
A witness said he saw two boys vandalizing the house and recognized them from being in his son's class. He gave their identities to the deputy.
When the deputy tracked down the boy, he admitted vandalizing the house and spray-painting the vulgarity on the garage door.
The arrest report didn't indicate the fate of the other boy.
The youth was charged with felony property damage-criminal mischief. Because of his age, the Daily News will not identify him.
He will report to juvenile court on July 18.
