Disclaimer: JJ is the worst college basketball coach I've ever seen. Thats no exaggeration either. He has recruited poorly while lucking into a few recruits (Martin from BR, Mickey exceeded expectation, Blakeney/Simmons package from uncle Patrick). His X's and O's are non existent. I dont want to bash the man. He is a good guy and loves LSU. He's just not fit to run the program. That said.......

The kids played hard all season. I'm a season ticket holder and watched every game this year (some live/some recorded). The kids never gave up. Yes, they play poorly at times, seem lost, and don't play team defense. Much of his is due to **see discaimer**. One thing that cant be debated is that they have given their all on the court for LSU. So in that regard, I was extremely happy to see them get the win.

Last night, the things that needed to happen all year finally all happened on the same night (all with Blakeney being completely off his game)

Patterson/Mays were efficient from the point. Patterson shot well from 3 and has some big buckets in the 2nd half. Sampson filled it up. The perimeter defense was the best its been (not hard to do). Most of all, I felt LSU got most of the 50/50 "hustle plays".

I was happy to see Eddlestone get a win on senior night and drop in 4 pts. He has a monster block that was shamefully called a foul. Both he and Bridgewater can go out on a good note.

I never want LSU to lose a game, but this season was painful. Hopefully the pain of a 15 game losing streak will get admin (yeah, alleva sucks) off their arse and shell out for a quality coach (see AU, UT, Vandy, Bama, UF, UK, MSU, SC). LSU basketball will not get where they used to be without getting the right guy and quit pinching pennies on the CEO of the program.

So, sorry to all the psuedo LSU posers who wanted the streak to continue. It was a much needed win

Also: Do they only turn on the AC in the PMAC for gymanstics? It was hot as piss in there last night. The other 150 of you in attendance last night can attest.

Alleva pinched pennies on the head football coach. You don't think he will on the basketball coach?

Last night really made me hopeful for the future. With a better coach and the talent that's on this team, we can easily be a top 5 SEC team year in and year out.

We could see it on TV. Patterson's jersey was soaked in sweat, CJJ used towel several times to wipe his sweat.

Completely agree! Hopefully LSU AD sees the situation the same way.

This is not the same. Coach O has surrounded himself with the best assistants in the game and lets them coach. Not to mention no one questions O's ability to coach and certainly not his recruiting! JJ can not coach nor can he recruit this is apples and oranges and a bad attempt to take a shot at Coach O!!!

You didn't watch the Florida game then. They gave up. Fortunately, they showed effort in future games but that game alone should have seen the end of JJ and Alleva.

Coach Jones can't win - when the teams loses, he gets all the blame and when they win he gets no credit.

Who didn't give him credit for the win? Its on his resume now isn't it?

Tell me what did you see transpire last night that was coaching related that propelled the team to victory?

Shots with in and the perimeter D was sound for once. The offensive and defensive structure was the same

You should have known what I meant. should

They never gave up on the season. UF was rock bottom and they responded with some nice efforts. Almost won at UGA. most games the team was snake bit by 2nd half adjustments on one end and lack thereof on another. see home game against the gumps for prime example.

Good post.

Just hope *see disclaimer* is out regardless of what happens rest of the year. These guys deserve a true shot at success and good leadership.

I completely disagree with these statements.

And that's not meant as a criticism of the players - it's a criticism of Jones. I think the players knew Jones is a bad coach and doesn't know what he's doing, and when that happens, the effort given by the players isn't 100%, and Jones doesn't do anything to demand it. It's just human nature.

As bad as this team has been, I've enjoyed them more than last year's team. They haven't won very often, but they've given it their all and as OP stated, haven't quit.

Last year's team was so talented with so much potential. They sabotaged themselves and just gave up at the end of the year when another win or two would have gotten them into the tournament.

I think plenty of people question Coach O's ability to be a head coach (which is what he was hired to do).

yeah, sometimes ineptitude could be masked as "not playing hard"

This team had a defeated mindset going in to most games. they were valiant but as soon as the other team threw haymakers, they were done. Thats a reflection of the head coach. They played hard, just was misdirected and hapless at times. It like a general giving his soldiers butter knives to a gun fight. you can only fight so hard before you are inevitably shot dead
