Hasn't been his usual self so far this year. And the 1st inning last night was rough (gave-up a lead-off HR and close to 40 pitches). That's tough on a pitcher's psyche.

But afterwards . . . five+ innings of vintage Lange.

Yup. He really started to click. Hopefully he can continue the wave.

Lance Lynn had similar overthrowing issues his first couple years as a starter with the Cardinals. He changed his pre-game running routine to tire him out a little more before the games even started to get excess energy out of his system that was causing first inning jitters and overthrowing.

It may be something to look into for Lange.

Was reading some stuff on Lange this week and some of it really made a lot of sense. With his throwing motion being completely over the top, the slightest change in his release point will affect his control moreso than someone with a more three quarter arm slot. He's been a little off on his release point, thus the control issues he's had this year. I don't think it's as much him being too amped up than it is he's just been a little off in his mechanics. He seems to have found his groove last night. Hopefully that continues.

Took a great deal of mental toughness to put that first inning behind him and pitch 5.1 additional innings of solid effort and result.

Lange appears to have his head in the right place.

The fact that Lange threw almost 40 pitches in the 1st and still managed to pitch into the 7th was outstanding work by him

Now let's hope Lange can be the dominant pitcher many of us thought he would be the rest of SEC play.
