I saw this today...sad. i remeber the 1984 olympics as a kid. So a rare form of pneumonia. Must be a serious bacteria.

Is anyone else wondering why Mary Lou Retton can't afford insurance? What would that cost for a single adult? Maybe 7-8 thousand per year for a decent individual plan? Much less for ObamaCare. Where did all her money go?

I think it’s completely disrespectful to a woman that could possibly die to wonder how she spends her money and discuss it on a public message board. It’s none of your damn business and have some respect for a woman who showed a ton of support for tiger athletics for many years

Is it really, when her kids are publicly asking for money? I wouldn't have but it is an understandable question.

I agree that on one hand it’s a reasonable thing to wonder. I would just say that we never know the circumstances though so be careful in assuming anything about the financial situation of other people bc there could be lots of reasons people are in a bind.
I get that it’s a message board and all that but we tend to be very judgmental sometimes and simply don’t have all the facts.

She was probably covered by her husband's insurance then got dropped after the divorce and was never able to re-up.
