bama's a good team.

some of you are under the impression that there used to be a "fence" around Louisiana and we never lost top recruits before. wake the frick up. it happens...and it happens at all schools. especially when you're the only elite school in a state with as much talent as Louisiana. not every kid is going to come to LSU. get the frick over it

Worst day for the program? 1/9 was the worst day of my life. That isn't hyperbole -- maybe I'm living the charmed life, but I'll remember that shite for the rest of my life.

There was a fence. Saban put it up when he was here which is exactly how he knows where all of the holes are.

Don't disagree but you have to land the top players in your own backyard and LSU hasn't done that the last couple of years.

no there wasn't and no he didn't. don't believe everything you read on the Rant

not all of them and yes we have. i guess you're upset the Mannings didn't come to LSU either

and by the way...we'll still probably finish with a top 3 class. only a dumbass would be upset about landing 2 5 stars in one day, one of which being the #1 player in the country, and having a top 3 class

to answer your question....I don't think it changed attendance one bit...but it damn sure changed my outlook in that I don't let myself get nearly as emotionally invested in the game/season any more...

I'm sure the weak OOC home schedule and neutral site games have a lot to do with attendance also.

I think we all can relate (Im not to this level, but it hurts very bad),
It is GREAT to be an LSU fan and I think we are making that game too "special". EVERY fan of every sport who is passionate has been through something just as bad if not worse...Bama had it this year and in 2010, Auburn has had it many times, name one team or one program at an elite level who has not suffered as much pain as we feel from that game? It is not unique to LSU, the hurt aint just ours...

I am not upset. I think this will be a great class. I am just responding to the overall theme of the OP. There is a cause and effect to all of this. If you don't think that 1/9 had a bigger impact on LSU than simply not winning the NC then I don't know what to tell you. If LSU wins that game, we probably aren't talking about losing these recruits that we are now.

When Saban was at LSU and set his sites on a top recruit in the state, LSU way more times than not got the recruit. The same was true of Miles until 1/9. I don't think anyone ever thought the Mannings (and Peyton predated Saban's time at LSU) were even considering LSU. Did LSU recruit them? Sure. You can't not recruit someone like that but I don't think anyone was surprised and certainly not shocked when they didn't go to LSU (big surprise their dad is an Ole Miss alum and living legend).

"Boo-hoo we lost a championship game. I hate our stupid coach that wins more than any coach we've ever had."

I wish we could trade fans with another school.

I think the 11/3/12 loss to Bama hurt att. more than the 1/9/12 loss.

That 11/3/12 game against Bama had perhaps the most incredible game-day atmosphere and anticipaton of any game in LSU history - rivaling Ole Miss '59 and USC '79.
I have never ever ever seen so much electricity on campus as on that day.
And even though we were losing 14-3 at halftime, NOT ONE TOENAIL MOLECULE left the stadium.
There were 93,300+ in every nook and cranny til the final excruciating gun.
THAT is what Van Pelt was talking about when he called it the greatest sporting event had had ever been to.
And imagine if we had won !!!!!!!!!!

The problem that I think the so called negative fans have is that LSU is currently at the "bottom of the top" of college football. An enviable position for many, but our key rival and former coach is at the top.

LSUs success is all relative. I like keeping a positive attitude about the tigers because their team is fun to watch, but I see their potential to be where Bama is and it frustrates me. Doesn't mean I am negative but just have higher expectations.

jacksimmons2000 Since 2009 Bama has been given every break in SEC play. Go watch the tape of the game when a late hit on JJ put him out of the game while LSU was leading. No flag.

This is very true, it's funny because in the sugar bowl I was SHOCKED to see that pass interference call to give OU the first down to run out the clock.

I turned to my buddy and he was thinking the same thing. THE SEC REFS WOULD HAVE NEVER CALLED THAT, with bama winning on the line.

1/9 was a perfect storm:

Bama didn't deserve to be there based on the season
LSU felt disrespected because of this
LSU had limped through the season with suspect QB play
Something happened the day before the game and/or in the locker room pregame that took the wind out of our sails
Bama rose to the occasion and played a great game
We lost ALL of the cred we built during the regular season in one, pitiful night of gross, gross ineptitude by our O line, QB, and coach.

That will pour cold water on a program until it wins convincingly again, which we haven't yet.
