re: Please Do away with the "Looking to the Sidelines" Crap

OU has also experienced some problems this year with the "looking to the sidelines for a play" and it may have cost them the BYU game.
UF runs a very basic offense with simple plays. From what I could see, it appears they ran maybe 10 different plays against LSU. What makes it work is TEBOW. The guy has 3 basic options (or 3 different decisions as to what to do with the ball) and he executes them perfectly. And that's why they are so successful.
The bottom line is that Crowton is trying to do too much. LSU was MOST successful under Crowton when they ran a basic, I-formation offense. Actually, they crushed V-Tech and MSU with that offense.
The biggest problem is the confusion it creates when the o-line is in a 3-point stance waiting for their blocking assignments with 5 seconds on the play clock. There are TOO many options (unlike UF).
Furthermore, there is no consistency. If Shep comes in the game and gets you 7 yards a carry, why stop that? Keep running it until the defense finds a way to stop it. If Scott is dragging the pile for 4 - 5 yards a carry, why STOP that?
No rhythm coupled with too many options = confusion = 109th ranked offense.

Hate it...annoys me...doesn't make a damn's worth of difference. I have seen it cause 0 penalties and few delay of game penalties. Perhaps we should go back to the Jimbo "wait until Christmas" Fisher playcalling where all the timeouts had to be used to avoid delay of game penalties.
Crowton and LSU have multiple, bad offensive issues. Whether or not they use this annoying technique is clearly not one of them!
