This season JaMarcus Russell was the starting QB. My friend says that he shouldn't have been the starter...Matt Flynn should have been the starter.

Who is right?

Your friend's a fricking moron.

LSU won the title in 2007 despite Flynn under center not because of him. I say that as a guy who REALLY liked Flynn, but there was absolutely nothing that Flynn magically did in 2007 that allowed LSU to win the title that Russell did not do in 2006. Feel free to yank up any numbers of old posts where I drag out every possible reason for why this is.

Of all the idiotic arguments that still take place among LSU fans, this has got to be the worst one.

but Flynn's rushing ability adds something to the equation. From 2007:
100 carries, 402 yds gain, 187 lost, 215 net, 4 TDs.

So he averaged 2.2 yards per carry/sack

And JR averaged 2.7 ypc/sack

Crowton brought in that weird QB sneak in 2007 where the QB shuffles left or right before jumping in. Strange but effective play

anybody who doesn't say jr is a fool.

Flynn was good not great in 07, jr was great in 06.

If we'd have had a MF the past three years (or someone similar to his skill set) we'd have at least ONE NC.

And we'd definitely have a few more wins

I literally checked in for a bit because I was free for a moment and now have to check out because getting dragged into this abyss of an argument is going to have me wanting to punch puppies.

Mett last year > Flynn.

I don't think we would have beaten Auburn this year with Drew Brees at QB.

Probably would have won it in 2012, although Mett was perfect against Bama.

Flynn easy. JR was good in the clutch and won a lot of games in the fourth quarter. So many 3 and outs with JR, so many missed passes that would have went for easy TD's. Flynn easy

With the team we had that year, we should have won the national championship, which Flynn did the next year. If Flynn had been QB that year instead of JR, we probably would have won it that year as well. JR had a cannon of an arm but couldn't throw accurately past 15 yards.

This debate is usually good for weeding out the dumbest members of LSU's fanbase.

One can't possibly think Flynn was better at any point during their time at LSU than Russell.

Yep we weeded you out.

Think about the pass made by Flynn against Auburn to win the game. JR couldn't have made that pass in his dreams.

Damn. Irrefutable. JR couldn't complete a 25 yard pass. You right you right dog.

That's right JR would have overthrown him by 5 yards or thrown at his feet which is another thing he was good at.

What if I told you ... Russell was the much more accurate passer between the two?
