Folks, I have been a Pittsburgh Pirate fan since the early 1950s. I've stuck with them through thick but mostly thin. I am excited to see them finally part with some coin and pay our own great Paul Skenes what I read was a record bonus.

Now, those tightwad bastards need to shake the tree and give Paul some support.

I hope more of you become Pirate fans and join the three of us in Louisiana who have ever even heard of them.

Living in Georgia, my manager is a Pirates fan, though I mostly hear from her about the Steelers and Penn State football, and how the Pirates suck. But that can easily change with Skenes.

Happy for you (and him). I’m flying into Pittsburgh in September for Pirates and Yankees. I’ve been to all 30, and Pittsburgh is my favorite MLB park. I wish Skenes was there already and pitching. He’s going to be great.

That's amazing! I will make a point to go there for a series when he's pitching. Have a great time!

Been a fan since the We Are Family team in '79. It's been a struggle but we have a good bit of young talent now, hopefully ownership is willing to spend a little money.

A lot of us are going to follow him and crews career for sure. I was excited to follow bregman when he came through but I’m more excited to watch these guys now.

You are not alone!! My father is a huge bucs fan. Watches every single game. He’s over the moon with Skenes and thinks (like he does every year) that “we’re close!”

By default I’m also a Bucs fan. Let’s go Bucs!!

Hopefully someone finds a tape of the owner dropping a hard R.

I grew up a Pirates fan, but I could never understand why. Then, late in his life, my Pop told me a story about the triple A minor league team that was based in New Orleans. He said that the 1960 Pirates world championship victory was heavily influenced by minor league players that had played in New Orleans. My Dad said he watched the 1960 World series and saw Bill Mazeroski hit the walk off home run to win game 7 and the championship. He said I might have watched it with him, but he could not remember. Although Mazeroski did not play in New Orleans in the minors, I think the fact that my Dad was a big Pirates fan likely influenced my MLB allegiances (Pirates and Red Sox).

I am very hopeful that Paul Skenes has a great pro career and, being a Pirates fan, would love to see him win a world championship with them. A kid can dream, can't he!

Can confirm. I've been to 42 (counting previous parks like Olympic, Astrodome, RFK, etc.)

PNC is the best and it's not especially close.

My VP is a big Pirates fan and he has been blowing me up with excitement that they got Skenes and happy they won't suck going forward.

Ok, I got you and me...who is the other guy? Or gal. We are not picky.

When I was 8 my brother was a Reds fan, I decided to pick the Pirates as they were rising up.

I still hate Sid Bream, wont hardly fish for em.

He is a better fan than me. I am more likely to wait for the fall than expect success to continue. I am hopeful that this Skenes deal is a sign of things to come.

my best friend from hs(retired sports writer for the T-P,) is the biggest Pirates, Steelers, Penn State fan there is, we're going to the Steeler training camp in about three weeks and will catch a Pirates game too( I think they'll be in town while we're there)

Would someone like Skenes be enough for this to be true. Even if you were to assume he was with them from opening day this year and was able to be a dominant ace pitcher; at best he would probably have them fighting for a WC spot.

if the Pirates stay true to form Skenes will have a miserable time there until a team that is trying to win trades for him, the Pirates are like a AAA team talent pool for the rest of MLB that happens to be playing in the same league, the way the A's were for the Yankees back in the 60s
