Attitude seems to be that this is a huge loss in Panther land.

after living there I have a lot of friends who are Pitt alums.

they all seem to agree that they understand the move but are still upset that Pitt didn't try to match.

After looking at that turrible excuse for a message board, I'll say this, Chicken makes them all look like their running in slow motion! Also I find it interesting how they have a discussion without other posters just in and attacking them.

Sad. They used to be a proud program.

Reading their message board just now was very refreshing for this ^ reason. Posters got to express their opinions without getting flamed. Very nice and mature.

Admittedly, this is completely sour grapes but I hope LSU gets shut out every single game next season. Eff him.

Ouch. Lots of Canada hate.

Was there this much hate for Jimbo when he left?

No. There were a bunch of morons here who were thrilled to see him go.

Whatever happened to Pitt anyway? Seems like they were always producing top players - Tony Dorsett, Dan Marino and a ton of others. And seems like they used to go toe to toe with Penn State on the regular when Penn State was a power.

But it seems like they went a long time without being ultra relevant in the college FB big picture.

I'll answer though I suspect no one really wants to know or will read the whole thing

As far as top players, they still have been, check the hall of fame ..aaron donald is the highest graded player in the NFL of any postion, chris doleman HOF, curtis martin HOF, reuben brown HOF, larry fitz, darrelle revis, shady mccoy,(not to mention the best punter of the last decade+ ). all after the marino and pitts second peak in the 70's-early 80's.
--In fact ESPN did a fact/resut based study just from 1980 to 2010 on best NFL producers and pitt was 3rd behind Miami and USC (ahead of #4 FSU , go acc?). This did not count pitts NC/Tony Doresett teams in the late 70's.

but why they suck? because pitt the SCHOOL wanted them to unfortunately. There were 2 periods where they instituted strong policies to de-emphasize football.

-The first and who cares because it was so long ago, was in 1940. after ~20 years or probably the best run of any team, EVER, they followed the ivy's de emphasis plans and pretty much quit trying, but kept up the national schedule (i.e. playing oklahomas and ND's while teams liek WVU were playing washington&jefferson and waynesburg).. relavance of this is, it iw what dropped them from the all time blue blood status forever.

Second was in 1985, the raised admission standards well above all their pier programs and NCAA mandates. The team went into a downward spiral, which unfortunately lasted through the TV /football boon and was not even attempted to fix it until basically 2000.

although if academics are the most important (not to me but..) it worked out that way. they have over 3 million endowment, and are very difficult to get accepted to, MUCH harder than Penn State for instance.
