Sports Historian Bob Remy -- October 3, 1972 - Pete Maravich returns to Baton Rouge - Pete Maravich's first appearance in LSU's new Assembly Center was a winning one as the Atlanta Hawks edged the Houston Rockets, 132-131, in a National Basketball Association exhibition game. A crowd of 11,200 gave Maravich a prolonged standing ovation when he was introduced. He finished with 25 points and eight assists.

Stacy Foreman Pete Maravich is a Basketball Icon! I was so lucky to have watched him play in college at LSU and in the NBA! He is and will always be my FAVORITE!!

He was supposed to play in another exhibition game, I believe, against the Cleveland Cavaliers. But Pete couldn't play because his mother committed suicide. I went to that game if I remember right.

I was a huge 76ers fan years back as a kid, and lived in BR. My parents took me to a sixer-jazz exhibition at the centroplex back in 1979. Pete didn't play much, I think he was coming off a severe knee injury, and of course that was before the modern surgical procedures we have now.
