That is Saban's record. No doubt he is a excellent coach but it also takes luck to win the BCS and he has had his share. Without a few breaks, he wouldn't have had the run he's had. Most teams that win championships can look back and point to a few fortunate events that helped them.

Not taking anything away from Saban because I understand that you have to put yourself in position to be lucky and he has... but the breaks could have easily gone against him and he'd be an excellent coach with only one or two rings.

I sent that to all of my friends and NONE believed it. Bama has had a tremendous amount of help by ESPN to win those titles. All but 2009 involved some serious luck.

Before Bama fans chime in, the same can be said for both of LSU's BCS titles. Although 2003 LSU wasn't the lucky team that didn't deserve to be in the game, Oklahoma was. In 2007, yeah that was the luckiest title ever.

Took the number 1 and 2 teams losing last year to get them in the game. The year before it took an act of the media to get them in when they didn't deserve it. So yeah, they've had a good bit of luck.

And yes the 2007 championship team was lucky as hell.

If it takes luck the we should be in good shape with Les. He has got that in abundance.

The thing is, luck by itself doesn't take you very far. You have to be good to put yourself in a position to take advantage of luck. CLM's record at LSU and in the SEC speaks volumes about whether he is good or not.

Also in the last 4 seasons bama has only even represented the west in the sec championship game once. This will be auburns second in that time frame.

Eta: just shows how tough our division really is

Perspective is they have the same amount of divisional championships as Mizzou in the past 4 years.

Jordan Jefferson has as many SEC titles to his name as AJ McCarron...

I think if you go back over the last 15 years of NC winners, the "luck" they have had at times in their season would astound you.

It really is crazy. Things just really have to fall into place to win an NC.

Wrong. Everyone had 2-losses except Ohio St. and LSU actually won the SEC.

The luckiest NC is Bama in 2011. No other team can say they won a NC by finishing second in their division and not even playing for their conference championship and beat out a team that had the same record, a stronger SOS, and a conference title. It will probably never happen again as well.

If you mean by luck, a yr w/ no dominant team, then yes. Only 1 team finished the regular season undefeated (Hawaii) by playing a garbage schedule & only 1 finished w/ just 1 loss (OH St.).

Not jumping on the OP because I actually agree with him. But I have an issue with people always talking about November as if it is the only part of the season that matters. It doens't make any sense to select games played during an arbitrary group of days within the season. Just as easy to talk about the whole season and it is actually easier to get those stats.

Of course the other parts of the season matter. But November is traditionally when a lot of the best match ups take place. It's no coincidence Bama is 7-5 in november. November is when Bama plays Lsu and Auburn. Sabans genius is in his abilities as a recruiter/motivator/disciplinarian. His teams never seem to have the letdown losses to teams with far inferior talent. However, when it comes to actual hotly contested games against other quality opponents he's not exactly the God he's made out to be
