Do you think they have gone over the top, and are you perhaps embarassed at some of the things that have been said about the man as a person, ie his intelligence and the like?

I mean, I completely understand condemning his time mgmt, his lack of what appears to be coaching, his lack of attention to detail, failure in fixing things, and what looks like a lack of planning on the sidelines and other things to do with his job, but is it really fair and do you think it serves a purpose to make personal attacks on the man's intelligence which in turn gets back to him and his wife and kids as well as friends of theirs? Do you think that perhaps people don't know where the line is anymore?

I agree, and although I've never done this before, I really have an urge to call into one of the sports shows today and bring that subject up. It's gotten waaaaaay out of hand and over the line IMO, and quite honestly, I believe it is more embarassing to me an LSU fan to listen to it than it is when I hear Miles fumble for the words at the microphone in a press conference, I guess because it really paints more of a picture of the actual fan base than does Miles struggling with public speaking does. In the end, we are all just human beings with our faults, but stuff like this is pretty low rent and classless IMO.

Are we not embarassing the University and ourselves as fans even more so by people running down the man's intelligence like he's some kind of idiot? True, his coaching has looked pathetic and inept, but is that and his talent or lack thereof in public speaking really a sign of the man's intelligence or perhaps areas he struggles at in life?

Truthfully, I find fan's comments more of a bad example of who I am as a fan than anything that Miles does or says in front of a microphone.

There is no distinction between man and coach. We only know Miles as a coach. We can only speculate what he is as a person, since none of us know him personally.

As a coach, he's a bumbling idiot who makes the same stupid decisions over and over again. We have nothing else to judge him on.

So, I say no to your question. No one is judging him on how good of a father he is. Or, how faithful he is as a husband. He's being judged 100% based on what he says and does as head coach of our Tigers. He's earned every penny of he criticism.

Yes, and especially to the DB's that are posting crap about his family. Those that do should get whacked with the Banhammer ASAP, IMO.

I really haven't heard all that many personal attacks. Most of the criticism I've heard is clock management and personnel related. If somebody says he's an idiot b/c he has bad clock management - that's not really a personal attack.

It is bad for the family (especially kids), but that's pretty much the gig. I would be willing to bet that Miles handles these issues well with his kids - and that they turn into a positive learning experience. I've never heard anyone attack his character. It's really hard not to like the guy.

All spouses and children of high profile people go through the exact same thing.

Well, now see, you are dead wrong about this, so that makes the rest of your post suspect.

Attack the coach if you choose, but not the man, husband, father.

For past several years, Miles public speaking was generally considered "folksy" by most people, and national media did not make big deal out of it.

The problem is when there are specific questions/problems which require exact answers...
...then we get the wacky responses from Les.

OK to let "Les be Les" when being interviewed, however just can NOT have another game-management melt down...

I find those that do such to be an embarrassment to the university and athletic program! Although a lot can be said about how we've gotten by for 5 games, its amazing how such A huge fan base can be made to look bad by a small percentage of loud mouth people.

''I'm disappointed with the last 36 seconds of (Saturday's) game,'' Alleva said. ''I'm really happy that we won the game and we're 5-0 and that's all that really needs to be said right now. We still have seven more games to play.''

This comes with being a public figure these days. His $4 mil a year is plenty enough to cover any therapy he may need from people being mean to him.

I agree with Miles' answers. They are wacky, and I find myself questioning what in the world he was thinking most of the time, or just flat out flustered at the non responses and strange mannerisms, etc, but I still don't think that is a sign of the man's actual intelligence, nor do I think it is a very fair way to judge someone's intelligence. I've done some public speaking before as have many of you. Now, imagine if your job performance was scrutinized before the whole country and you were expected to give quick answers about hard questions. True, most coaches are expected to do this flawlessly, but I'm just saying that most of us would cave and say something strange or off at some point out of nerves or maybe because we just panic. That certainly wouldn't be or shouldn't be a sign of our own intelligence. Perhaps our incompetence in public speaking, but certainly not our intelligence.

Vicious personal attacks are never acceptable. I feel sorry for Miles' wife and kids; God knows what runs through their minds when they read and hear some of the stuff said about Les. I wouldn't be surprised if there are times when they fear for their physical safety. That's not just sad. It's frightening.

Les Miles is regularly compared to Nick Saban. To the casual fan (which most on this message board are) Miles just does not measure up. I'm sure everyone has their reasons but I think the public speaking thing is seen as a weakness by many.
Saban is like our president (Obama) an extremely good public speaker that has obviously had some training in this area. Where-as Miles could be compared to Bush. Like Les; George made his fair share of fauxpaus over his two terms. Does this make Obama a much better president? I say no, but there are those who will disagree. Time will tell.
So there are many who long for Nick Saban or a coach similar to him. Count me out of that group. Miles has the respect and admiration of his players. You don't see him on the sidelines EVERY week screaming at them and blaming them for anything and everything that goes wrong. Saban is a hot-headed, arrogant POS that I never liked even when he was here.
I stand behind our loyal coach.

I think sometimes we all, myself included, lose sight of the fact that it's still a game. People are dying every day, people loose their jobs every day, people get abused every day, so forth and so on. I know we are all passionate about our team and rightfully so. Overall, I think we take things way too seriously. I don't understand Miles sometimes and certainly don't understand what happened in the last seconds of the Tenn. game. But, fact is, we're 5-0. What's the old saying: I had rather be lucky than good.

This crossed my mind yesterday also,..and yes, I think not only the fans have crossed the line, but all of the media has crossed it to...ITS JUST A GAME... a highly paid one, but its still just a game. Most of the worst comments on here are form junvenille deliquents and asses, but its getting worse and it does not reflect positively on LSU at all....NOTHING GOOD WILL COME BY BAD MOUTHING LES MILES IN PUBLIC...it needs to stop...
