Couple of quality swipes at johnny's terribleness

LINK

quote:

Most of LSU’s manifold deficiencies were on display against Kentucky on Saturday: wildly inconsistent effort, which resulted in defensive lapses (the Wildcats shot 53 percent) and a beating on the boards (LSU was outrebounded by 16); oft-dysfunctional offense, which often led to Simmons being more spectator than focal point (many of his best plays came after stealing the ball or grabbing a rebound, rather than receiving a pass in scoring position); and Johnny Jones’ hapless bench coaching (he mastered the art of calling timeout 1-2 possessions too late).

quote:

His son clearly could have experienced more team success elsewhere in his one college season. But the misadventure of being coached by Jones does not appear to have negatively impacted his draft status.

Hard to disagree with anything. This team has been thru some adversity but still so disappointing.

This season was like asking for a white palomino stallion and getting a rocking horse.

frick. I can't handle these articles anymore, but we probably need them to pressure Alleva and TAF

So ready for basketball season to be over. And that is a serious statement coming from me.

This team lost me. LSU's 3 SEC win teams didnt even do that. It's not even because the high expectations. It's because they just don't seem to care. Why care if they can't even care. ugh.

IMO, this season was like handing a teenager the keys to a Ferrari.

At this point all of these guys are saying the same things over and over. They are right but I think it is time to move on from LSU and talk about another team. Is LSU better off for getting Ben for one year. I'd say in the long run it will be. He will go pro make a lot of all stars teams and be a good ambassador for LSU. Also he showed that no matter the talent Johnny isn't a good coach and will be gone sooner than had they went to the tourney and made some noise. Probably be after next year but that is sooner than it could have been.

the way this season played out is gonna sting for a long time. if you'd have told me in October that we'd be 18-13 and only make the tourney with an SECt title, i'd have called you insane.

i really still can't believe this.

The things I see are so terrible. It's crazy how we will use an entire shot clock and no one is moving without the ball.

What are they practicing during the week?

I was a little scared before the season started that it was going to be like Durant's season at Texas where they had some studs but were just too young.

Turns out we were much worse

I've never been so ready for a season to be over. There's nothing worse than watching a team with absolutely no direction. This team doesn't care and time after time, they quit even though they had a lot to play for.

no they haven't. The adversity you are thinking of is self inflicted.

Pat Forde is just another internet writer that wants to pile on Johnny Jones and act like Ben Simmons is some kind of victim because he chose LSU. Ben is very good on both ends of the court when he gives 100% effort, unfortunately he didnt always do that.

I was actually hoping that would be the worst case scenario. And that year showed that Barnes was not that bad of a coach some would make him out to be. That roster got gutted big time from the previous year, and they managed to do enough to get through the season.

I hate being the "blame the coach for everything" guy.....but this is my biggest problem with Johnny. He doesn't hold players accountable for a lack of defensive effort. If he made it a priority to give good effort on the defensive end, this wouldn't have happened. Some coaches stress defense and some don't. We are gonna win consistently here without a coach who can stress defense. All the great teams do it. We don't.

i agree with you about him not holding them accountable, but this is on Ben. i remember watching a couple of his HS games and told my brother that his defense would be an issue when he got here. in HS he could get away with it. you can't do that in college.
