I've noticed fewer threads about all the young guys getting tons of PT in these next couple of games. Starters will play well into 4th qtr. Young guys (and older 2nd teamers) will get a few meaningless snaps at end of game. Les's formula/philosophy.

well, it is the beginning of the year, and our starters need the reps too.

if we are up 50 late in the 3rd you will not see starting linemen in the game.

LOL. Les' teams don't blow out inferior opponents like this. We usually let them hang around waaaay too long.

This is almost too stupid to disprove. But there are plenty of stats that disprove it. Dumbass.

They are all young, inexperienced and NEED the reps.

I like the way our schedule works this year. We had a tough test to start out so the young guys at least have a sense of how hard SEC play will be.

Now we've got two cupcakes, a decent step up against State and a final cupcake before shite gets real. That’s plenty of time to work out kinks, settle on starters, and figure out the strengths and weaknesses of this team.

We'll win the next four games but I'm sure they will be hard to watch as the team is maturing. We might even lose to AU. But who knows after that? Maybe we'll end up being 2013 Auburn. Remember all the shite LSU got for only beating that young, undefeated team by 2 touchdowns? They peaked at the right time.

i think sam houston state is going to put up a fight until halftime. i think the LSU qb's might throw 12 passes combined in this game.

Our starters don't have much experience to begin with so of course they will play a lot.

I'll try one more time about this youth mantra. We are young at WR and QB. Where else? Maybe DT. Eight Juniors started, seven Seniors started, six sophomores started. One freshman started. Yes I know we have a great recruiting class and expect great things from the true freshman and some of the red shirt freshman. Just saying.

How many three and four year starters were in the bunch? Even guys who've played a lot in a reserve capacity have to get used to being THE GUY and not a backup.

There's also as such thing as starters building chemistry.

I agree. Our starters are as young or younger than our second and third string. They need lots of tune-up PT as well.

2nd teamers in the defensive front 7 play pretty regularly anyway, not necessarily wholesale 2nd team defense subs, but guys will rotate in and out periodically. and we always use around 7 DBs between nickel/ mustang and regular rotations. and this was the same last week, even with the game still on the line. given that our opponent wants to run a lot of plays at a fast tempo, I can see backups getting out there.

it's on offense that backps tend to get the short end of the stick (relatively speaking). RBs and TEs sub of course, but 1st team OL (with maybe an Evan Washington appearance) could possibly go most of the way.

I think the starters need all the reps they can get. With one exception - when the game is in hand, get La'El out of there.

Now is the time to start sorting out our true depth charts for the long season ahead. Its akin to an NFL preseason game, the starters will play x amount of snaps and then the rest get a shot to see how they do in game action.
