The administration simply doesnt want 125k people on campus, many of which dont attend the game or have any intention of attending the game.. These people are a net loss in terms of gameday revenue.

Amazing a State funded school is trying to exclude it's own population from one of it's most prized events through price increases.

Why... The campus doesnt have the proper facilities to entertain an infinite amount of people, people that are usually intoxicated to some degree. Its only natural for the administration to look at this objectively and understand that having more and more people show up on campus without the proper resources available is a disaster in the making.

They arent excluding anybody, just discouraging those that dont want to pony up...albeit an amount I dont believe is sustainable.

Never have I ever felt there were too many people on campus for game day.

They are attempting to but yes, they aren't straight up saying you can't come.

I'm all for keeping the riffraff out but it's now at the expense of many quality fans. It's a lose lose situation.

I'm still wondering exactly where this new parking money is designated to go.

Agree, and they greatly contribute to traffic issues after big games.

THIS

About the only thing this will do, is make the trash stay at home. Even then, it likely won't have much impact...

Is it really hard to take your trash and drop it in a garbage? I hate seeing the campus so trashy after a game. It is what is though.

On the other hand, I think more people really help LSU's atmosphere. Regardless who is there.

Its not about what you feel. You're there to have a good time, the university is holding an event that has no stated limit to the amount of people invited or that can show up. Its proper for them to attempt control measures if they so desire.

Prima facie, this seems like a good thing, right? The AD is an auxiliary, not funded by the budget, that generously “donate” money back to the University. They don’t cost the school any money to exist. When you think about it though, this becomes a tail-wags-dog situation, as academics, the primary mission of a University, becomes subjugated to athletics, greedily taking scraps off the master’s table while it’s own budget is ruthlessly slashed a few miles up-river. Last time I checked, athletics existed at the behest of the University, and not the other way around.

I hate this line of thinking.

Yes, it is true that athletics wouldn't exist without the university. But the LSU we know and love wouldn't be the same without its athletics. Successful athletics programs with national exposure increase the applicant pool and enrollment for the university (read: more money for the university). Just look at any article that details the spike in applications for schools that have won the BCSNCG.

Also, I would much rather have an AD that "greedily" generates a profit than a school where the AD is a financial drain on the state and the university itself (read: just about every other university). The fact that LSU has an AD that is even in the position to generate revenue to the university should be seen as a blessing and not as an hindrance to academics.

LSU and a handful of other schools have shown that a properly managed AD can be a great force in making college atheletics financially sustainable whilst generating revenue for both the university, maintaining current facilities, and building new ones.

The crux of the LSU academic budget problems does not lie with the athletics not giving 100% of its profits back to the university. That is not a financially stable method to ensure the academic success at LSU. The problem is a much bigger one dealing with how the state chooses to manage the higher educational system in the state. Too many 4-year universities (with accompanying athletic programs that do not make money) for the population size and the resources from the state being spread too thin amongst those universities.

and sure, it does affect me, i'm not saying i'm entitled, i'm just saying it sucks for me

Hey TGT, well said, and I AM impacted by LSU costs ever year, just like you, and I DO care about what it costs everyone, but do you think you work any harder than me or most everyone else to provide your family with a luxury like this? Please know, I hope you are right there next to me and other LSU fans rooting for our team, and I hope you can afford to continue to enjoy this luxury, and I hope I can too. But sometimes we all have to give more to eat at our favorite place, go to a game, send our kids to a decent school...it has nothing to do with fair imo...all the best to you, we all share a love for LSU

You know many folks like my Mom whose got a Titanium Hip and is in her Mid-50's, or someone else whose using a wheelchair or whose mobility has been limited who want to try to walk a mile more than they already were in the hot sun

gfunk- please post more, it is a shame if your mom (or anyone with disabilites) is getting sent far away, is LSU really providing less handicap spaces just to sell them, I really doubt they can get away with this, but I am NOT saying you are wrong, please update with details..and just like tgt, I wish you and your family the best.

well with a post like that, now i can't dislike you.

of course i'm not saying i work harder than anyone, if anything i'm probably saying i make less and had two kids in the last 4 yrs so my income/expense pie chart has been re-distributed in the recent past so to speak.

basically what it's meant for me is that my wife and i don't go to games anymore together, just i go. i also used to be able to donate money to LSU (albeit a modest amount in the grand scale of things) and now i have to take parking money from that.

i dislike that because i'd rather help subsidize the academic part of the university a little bit, but now all "LSU" money goes to ath dept. oh well. i'm 35, i probably can't do this forever anyway.

LSU can do this because when i fall, someone else will gladly take my place.

I think this is wishful thnking, the big conference night games are a thing of the past IMO

The Alabama game this year will be a night game. That was guaranteed as part of the deal that allowed CBS to move the "Game of the Century" in Tuscaloosa last year to prime time. ESPN gave them the prime time slot and in return got a guarantee they would have the Bama-LSU game this year at night.

i would have 100% no problem with this (motive wise) if 100% of the money went to education. but it doesn't. it goes to the ath dept.

During Piyush and the legislature's last raping of the flagship the athletic department took on the funding of essentially anything that is marginally tied to athletics including a large portion of music/band funding that previously was not paid for by the AD. Also the AD increased the % donation back to the university. So yes a large portion of the money that was paid in parking went torwards the university.

I've read through this thread and a lot of you have absolutely nailed the way I feel.

There's being profitable, and then there's just straight up, money grubbing, walk over your mother's grave to make a dollar - GREED. And I really do feel like the LSU Ath Dept. have sold their souls for the almighty dollar. It goes way above and beyond the business principle of profit.

Just take a good luck at all the advertising inside the stadium. There's so many signs in there, it looks cheesy now. And we all know that "Cox Communications Stadium" is coming, just a matter of time. There's a commercial for every single break. There's even the live commercials out on the field, or if you will, "Tiger Fans, please direct your attention to the 20 for a very special presentation of Joe Blow from XYZ Company."

The parking, the TAF fees, constant ticket increases, moving students in the PMAC, demanding licensing fees on Honey Badger shirts, the list goes ad infinitum of examples. It really does get sickening. But hey, LSU wanted a fund raiser and they got one. He may not have a soul, but he can sure make LSU some money by God.

Naa, just the folks who either are, know someone, or are bright enough to realize that the Lot M spots they took were previously reserved for handicapped folks. Those handicapped folks will be given parking options over a mile away from the Stadium.

Last time I went to Auburn, we parked in handicapped parking about 2 blocks from the stadium. Handicapped parking was CLOSE and it was FREE! Said lot was about the size of Lot D (the old Alec Box parking).

Imagine that LSU, free parking for your disabled visitors (and closer than Lot M was).

It appalls me that LSU charges for handicap parking and puts a tradition fund on top of it and now are shuttling them to the game from "Siberia."

You think these people choose to be handicap?

I am shaking my head saying WTF.

When LP meth trash, ghetto thugs and neo Nazi skinheads decide LSU's campus is the place to be on a Fall Saturday, there are too many people on campus. I've seen all of the above walking around LSU at various times on gameday over the past couple of years.

LSU should worrying about offering parking worth a shite, and competently rather then charging to parallel park on the side of the road.
