Adam Schefter reports that the Packers are releasing veteran DL Ricky Jean Francois on Tuesday.

Francois, 30, is a former seventh-round pick of the 49ers back in 2009. He played four seasons for San Francisco before departing and signing on with the Colts as an unrestricted free agent.

After two years, the Colts cut Jean-Francois loose and he signed a three-year, $9 million contract with the Redskins in February of 2015. Washington released him during the offseason and he later signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Packers.

In 2016, Jean Francois appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and recorded 32 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a pass defense. ProFootballFocus rated him as the No. 45 overall interior defender out of 127 qualifying players.

If he was on the week 1 active roster then he gets all 16 paychecks for the season. Good for him!

Ricky Jean Francois is being released by the Packers according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. They gave him a $250,000 signing bonus this offseason as part of a one-year, $2 million deal. Now, 16/17ths of his $1.25 million base salary is wiped off their books.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Skins gave him another look and brought him back.

He's also made some smart investments off the field.

Hope he comes back to the Skins. He played well here and was a locker room leader. He called out our Terrible DC last year for his shite schemes.

I thought the same thing until a former teammate of his told me he "is like a computer genius". Heard he invested for the future quite well, who knows?

I didn't say he was dumb, I said borderline illiterate

Am I was exaggerating, I just had a buddy that walked on the team in 2007 and he said RJF was not well prepared for college academics, to put it nicely

Really happy he did so well for himself

From what I see here, he should be recognized for his hard work and good decisions.

If there is one thing that I have learned in this life it's that hard work trumps smarts every damned time. Good for him!

I'm happy for the guy. Seems he did really well. And I never said he was stupid.

Well then we agree to disagree but I should clarify. Maybe I should have said that a hard worker who is not so smart trumps a lazy smart person every time.
