Enough with the critiquing of the offense. That was clearly better over the past 4 games.

My criticism of the offense is this. But it has been this for quite a while.
1) We don't really utilize creative screens to back off the linebackers from stuffing the run and get defensive players out of the box.
2) Our passing game seems to rely on mostly long pass routes that take to long to develp.
3) We don't do enough to get the ball in the hands of guys with speed in space.
4) If your QB is not shown consistent proficiency throwing the deep ball practice it against non conference light weights and Monday - Friday but not on Saturday against SEC teams.

Then you are freaking blind. We put up 40+ points against Ole Miss. The offense was a little flat against Arkansas, but still put up 20 points on the road and got the win.
If you can't see that the offense was better against Bama, MSU, and Ole Miss then you have no clue.

Like I said, it was better. You said "clearly better", as if there was a giant leap...there wasn't.

Oregon went flat against Stanford. Does that mean their offense isn't good?
You might be one of only a select few indiviuals that think LSU's offense didn't get significantly better after the bye week before the Bama game.

The problem is not with our offense it is execution...how many deep shots down field did Mett over throw open receivers?...I'd say twice a game...we threw the ball a lot this year, sometimes too much. We threw WR screens, RB screens, long developing double moves...etc.
Our running game is creative...we run between the tackles a lot but not always with the same blocking schemes...we have a very diverse running scheme if you care to (or knowledgable enough) to look for it...
Bottom line, we don't run the spread and hopefully we never will and rantards only want to see us throw 50 times a game and then we'll seem creative...but lose more.

This is certainly true on occasion, e.g., missing wide-open receivers or drops. And in theory, it's always poor execution. But in the real-world some plays have less chance of succeeding than do others. For example, the fake FG on 4th and 12 vs Bama. Some plays are more easily executed or create better matchups and give us a better chance for success than do others.
Whatever the problem is, it is evident that our O could be more functional and productive. Everyone could always play better on D, O, and ST's but the low-hanging fruit is our O IMO.

I remember last year everyone crying about how bad the offense was when we were averaging 35 pts a game...
Every team gets shut down on offense at one time or another it doesn't mean you blow things up and start over....
We had problems in the red zone this year...we settled for too many FGs (and missed too many)...that should be the area to criticize...not creativity, trick plays etc.

It was awesome against 'Bama last year, but siting such stats is cover for an ineffective offense. If the offense cannot score when it matters, it is ineffective. A lot of scoring occurred off defense and special teams last year which can pad statistics. If the O cannot score in the red zone or, better yet with the ball on the opponents 7 yard line, maybe it needs some tweaking. I disagree if you think the O has been fine. It, especially QB play, has kept LSU from winning NC. See if that is in the books. Hopefully putting meaningless stats in perspective will help you understand that CLM needs to generate some offense.

Better? - Yes
Up to its potential, or the desire of the coaches, team and most fans? - Not even close!
Did it preform well enough to distance ourselves from inferior opponents - no?
Don't junk it. Don't fire anyone. Just recognize that there needs to be some creativity in play calling (not trick plays). Certain plays should set up other plays off that. They do a little of this but there are lots of other options they could use off the base plays that CLM obviously loves. Just refine the plan and play calling!

Bottom line is Jimbo Fisher took DiNardo's talent and then our own and averaged-AVERAGED-28+ PPG in the SEC from 2000-2006. For six years, everyone knew it was coming and still couldn't stop it.
He didn't leave "tapering off" either. He coached up backups and coaxed great performances out of Matt Flynn in a bowl game situation, etc.
We haven't approached that level of production and efficiency and productivity in terms of PPG since that time.

we have a winner. Les was preaching this, and what happens when the players execute? we get games like the bama, miss state, and ole miss games.
I said this in another thread that its the same for the defense. defense, just like offense, was in position to make plays and they didnt. Players missing tackles is execution. Not the scheme of the defense.

The O was fine in 08. running game wasnt as good, but it wasnt this year either. what killed us in 08 was turnovers. What killed us early on this year, was turnovers.
The offense wasnt bad last year. Not compared to 09 and 10.
we attempted 27.5 passes this year to 19.9 last. The coaches did what every fan wanted us to do. Throw the ball.
