Team has a lot of potential if the pitchers can stay consistent.

This hitting coach is the bees knees.

I thought I heard yesterday they were 11th in the SEC in batting average? Maybe I misheard.

Yesterday they lacked clutch hitting which needs to get better.

Caleb Gilbert is the only reliever who has looked good consistently. A lot of things need to happen for this team to be a threat in Omaha.
1) Poche and Lange need to be great.
2) Riley Smith or Bain has to develop into a reliable starter.
3) Stallings has to be able to rely on an off speed pitch
4) Two of our dopey relievers have to man up and throw strikes early in the count. (Cartwright, Bugg, Reynolds, Strall)
5) Left side of infield has to make the routine plays. This does not look likely.

You forgot to mention our 3rd starter, who has been nails so far.

Reynolds has looked fine. And Newman for the most part.

And Riley Smith is very far from starting.

Do Newman and Reynolds not pitch anymore?

I was wondering why Newman was pulled yesterday when he mowed down the lineup in his only inning.

a lot of things have to happen for this team to even make it to Omaha. yes, as you point out, our pitching needs to improve (even tho you left out two of our best relievers). but we have the talent and experience to go all the way, imo.

our defense is solid but needs to improve some to reach very good status.

at the core of where this team needs the most improvement is hitting. we haven't faced great pitching yet; hell, maybe not even very good pitching. forget Lamar; the team laid an egg both pitching and hitting (after the 8 run inning) but that game yesterday and some of the other games were shaky at the plate. this was to be expected so lets just let it play out and enjoy the ride.
