Makes sense the hire is today since the dead period ends tomorrow. Him not being hired by LSU made him available to talk to any recruit these past few weeks.

Wouldn't doubt it. The guy lives and breathes recruiting. He's been breaking down tapes of high school players in-state all fall even though he didn't have a job.

Yeah, I doubt the NCAA will be very happy about this. Can you promote LSU to kids, tell them you will be on staff, then get hired later? If its allowed currently I would expect there to be a rules change in the next few years.... The bey bey rule

Nope he wasn't part of any school, he was free to talk to any recruit until his hire
