Open questions for "The Search"?

When he decided to fire a coach who brought a National Championship and over a 100 wins to LSU, 4 games into the 2016 season, what made him believe that Jimbo Fischer was coming to LSU and that Jimbo's agent Jimmy Sexton was not playing him?
I mean, at Florida State Jimbo can recruit SEC talent, he has similar facilities and he does not have to live in the same division in the SEC with Nick Saban. There is no harder rout to a division, conference or national championship than from the SEC west. Why would Jimbo want to replace a fallen legend here. Jimbo has won a NC at Florida State. Coaches that have won a NC at a school rarely move to another school.
Then his plan B option is Tom Herman. Everyone knows, Texas will fire Charlie Strong and Tom Herman would be Texas' first choice. What makes "The Search" think he can outbid Texas?
What is his third choice, Mr 3-21?
Why not give someone else a look, someone better that a 3-21 head coaching record. Why not a Jeff Brohm, PJ Fleck, Larry Fedora, Pat Narduzzi or someone with a record of being able to run a spread offense.
Hell! I would take Mike Leach over Coach O.

There was no Search. Joe went down Florida Blvd to the Credit Clown Used Car lot, picked out the biggest piece of shite on the lot and told LSU he picked out a brand New Ferrari.

He fired a horrible coach...the problem here is that he hired a horrible coach as well....The firing was not the problem...the hire was the problem.

Les Miles spent all the talent and had little to show for it. Glad he is gone no matter what happens with O, who will probably be gone after 3 6-6 seasons...

Let's just accept there was no search. All that Jimbo and Herman stuff was smoking mirrors. Alleva sat on his arse and promoted within.

I understand that LSU can not compete with Texas money but Joe didn't even try. At least make Texas pay more for him. Offer Herman 12 million and make him tell you No. That would have cost Texas to up their bid and get Herman at a higher price. Joe got his feelings hurt and threw a temper tantrum. O was not even close the best coach available but Joe was either too lazy or stupid to care. The fact that he gave bozo a $12 million buyout is Insane and should be grounds for immediate termination on that fact alone.

quote:He didn't fire a horrible coach, he fired a guy that was coasting towards retirement. A horrible coach doesn't win at the level Miles did at his peak.

People need to stop being so damn arrogant about this- LSU does not recruit itself or win games because of the uniform. Florida State made a living with Catholic High BR players, and Alabama recently had a couple All Americans from La. If "LSU" is all it took, those guys would have been here.
Instead of trashing Miles, people (in power) need to look at what he did that kept things rolling. The basement was 8 wins, the ceiling was a national title. The median was 10 wins, in the most competitive college conference in America.
Find a guy who can do the same things, and if you want to add requirements that he's eloquent and likes flashy offense, so be it.
But you can't just trot out any idiot and say he can do it, as we're unfortunately about to learn the hard way.

I could be wrong, but I still believe there was fire behind the Herman smoke. I don't think ESPN runs with the story during the A&M game otherwise.
Had Strong not gagged that game away against Kansas, I think he still has a job in Austin. However, Texas moved quickly after that and Alleva's response was overly emotional.

LOL, as if Jimbo and Herman are killing it in their first 3 games.

"They were fantastic - a huge help," LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said. "They have years of football experience and know all the coaches and their agents. They were invaluable."

Turnkey has been in the executive search industry for more than two decades, working with numerous professional organizations, but entered the college market only a little more than two years ago.
They have years of football experience and have all the college football connections......After two whole years.
frick yeah Joe.

New Jersey-based company placed football coach Ed Orgeron at LSU, athletic director Greg Byrne at Alabama and athletic director John Currie at Tennessee.
If I were Turnkey I'd not use Orgeron or Currie as headliners going forward.
