Why did the Steelers call any of the 7 plays they committed a turnover on? Seems like a no-brainer not to call those plays.

It gets the ball to the RB faster and the qb can block on the backside where on a normal handoff the qb is eliminated on the play.

Quicker play and gives an extra push off the line.

Can someone give me a good reason why a the toss up the middle is better than the traditional handoff?

What type of benefits does it offer?

gets the RB the ball quicker

In response to everyone.

My main point is I really do not believe it makes a great deal of difference from a vision by the RB and blocking standpoint. I think its more of a risk to toss the ball two yards than to hand it off like .25 seconds later.

If it was a no brainer than it would be ran more often by other Teams around the nation, high school, NFL, college, little league.

It just seems odd and awkward. Sorry JMO

The RB has the ball in time to move over one gap either way depending on how the blocking plays out.

It's been effective, our yards/rush has been more consistent.

trends start in college first then transition to the NFL. How can you complain about something that has proven to be effective the last 2 weeks

why don't the teams in the NFL use the running spread like Oregon, etc?

because it's an entirely different level of football

Watch moar NFL. They use it too, just not as often as we do. A lot of it has to do with the elite speed of NFL defenses, especially LBs. But it works for the situations we use it for.... 3rd and short in hurry up

I'm all for it if it is effective and it may be some kind of break through by the offensive staff.

The first time there is a botched reception on the pitch, people will become skeptical ( i pray there will not be)

If it works it works and i under stand that. It just seems like the Risk > Benefit on a play designed to go up the middle or inside the tackle and guard.

if the saints would have called that play they wouldnt have lost. We ran it with ridley a lot. With his vision the advantage is to LSU almost every time.

Seems like it gives the rbs time to fnd that little gap to gain a few.

So fast defense = handoff is better than pitch?

Does not compute

Ridley ran it all last year and never mishandled it, and I've seen the same consistency this year.

Has anyone ever thought that on a handoff the running back can watch the hole develope, yet on the quick toss the running back, I would assume, must watch the toss into his hands which would make him take his eyes off of the hole?

Just playing devil's advocate here.

I'd say a messed up pitch might happen once this year. I don't see a qb doing a bad pitch on where he knows he's going with the ball.
