My issue is that Nick Saban didn't exactly pull our program out of shambles. I give Dinardo that credit, until he fricked things up with Tepper in '98 and '99. Saban inherited wonderful talent. Many of players recruited in the Dinardo era went pro and are/were having very successful careers.

It didn't hurt that Zook was at Florida and Shula was at Bama for the majority of Saban's years here. A coach's won-loss record is directly related to what state other conference programs are in during his tenure. I take nothing away from Pete Carroll but he came to USC when Washington, a traditional powerhouse in that conference, was on its way to the toilet, Zona and ASU were down as well. This is just one example. It doesn't demean the coach's accomplishment it just means that he took the job at the right time and did what he had to do to capitalize on it.

First in 2001 Lsu beat Auburn they didn't lose. Next after a coach is at a school 4-5 yrs you can tell the job he has been doing by how his team is build. How is the team built today vs after 4 yrs with Saban? Nuff Said

Nick Saban also inherited Bradie James, Trev Faulk, Josh Reed, Ryan Clark, Robert Royal, LaBrandon Toefield, Domanick Davis, Rohan Davey, hell I think Chad Lavalais was originally a Dinardo recruit.

Yep. DiNardo signed Lavalais in 1998 & 1999 before he finally got eligable in 2000. Saban also inherited Norman LeJuene, Jarvis Green & Howard Green.

i've never responded to this thread,as many times as it has been posted.i do have a question though for you tiger fans.play the "what if" for a moment.what IF saban had never been hired? instead, they hired miles after your 2 losing seasons, instead. does anyone think he would have built it back as fast as saban. not a flame here,i like miles.in comparison,i think saban is a little better on the defensive side, but you guys have as much talent,if not more than we do.there is a 9 game difference in that comparison, but, saban always manages to lose to someone he is not suppose to:(

I don't think we'd be the program we are today.

I like Les, but I don't think he has/had the force of personality to make the kind of changes needed to get LSU where they are today.

Building that student academic center and Sabanville as it was called when it was being built are things that Saban had to piss folks off to get done, but it was a promise he foreced as a condition of his hire and he held them to it. You think those facilities help with recruiting.

He forced LSU to adjust the assistants pay scale so that we now have the best paid assistants in the country. Makes it a bit easier to make good hires.

He hired Tommy Moffit.

And he was a prick when he was here. I heard several stories, but if one dared make mention of them they were shouted down and ridiculed. Of course now they are welcome and encouraged.

But part of that being a prick is what got alot of things done that put us where we are today. I don't really think Les has the kind of personality that could have gotten those things done.

Perhaps it's best it happened the way it did. I think Les is really at a crucial juncture this year where he can prove he was the right man for that transition and continue this legacy into the future. I hope he can. I don't think it's a slam dunk done deal yet though as some do.

Geaux Les!!

WHY WHY WHY WHY!

They are both good coaches. Les is here, I'll take Les. Good luck to Saban unless you are playing us or if a loss by the gumps helps us.

I just find it interesting to discuss.

It's not nearly the emotional hot button issue for me. Probably in my younger days it would have gotten me more riled, but I'm able to step back and look at it a bit more rationally in my old age.

Someone illustrate that Saban is better than Miles through facts

It's not all about facts. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but strictly looking at stats doesn't tell the whole story. Example: Do you REALLY think LSU is better at night in TS? Probably not - that record (compared to the daytime record) is largely due to LSU playing much better teams during the day because they were moved for TV.

Now, subjectivity doesn't tell the whole story either, and the facts you gave provide a strong argument for Miles. However, here are some subjective points for you to consider:

1) The program was in better shape when Miles came to LSU. By leaps and bounds? No - DiNardo had recruited good players too. But Miles still inherited a better situation. You can even throw in FACTS (related to facilities in place) to back this up.

2) I can think of games both coaches should not have lost. This might be a wash.
Saban: UAB 00, Ole Miss 01, Florida 03, Iowa 04 (05).
Miles: Tennessee 05, Auburn 06, Kentucky 07, Arkansas 07

3) To me, and to many others, Miles is not a good "in-game" coach. He's messed up simple things like timeouts and clock management.

Good grief!

DiNardo was a terrible recruiter!

You dumbasses need to understand DiNardo HATED and rejected 2-sport athletes!!!!!

That is fact and I saw it first-hand!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kennison didn't start the first 2-3 games his JR year because he ran Track.

Chris Cummings was in the doghouse too.

Saban embraced 2-sport athletes as does Miles.

You guys fail to mention that "Two Loss Les" "backed in" to his National Championship with a 2 loss season. The only reason that there is a thread and continued discussion is that down deep apologists, loyalists, and haters all know that Miles will be Saban's Beyotch, for many years to come. I am afraid that after Tebow & Co, the road for UF is uphill as well.

Now, go root for your "Damn Strong Football Team" and beat ULALA!

The only things that matter are wins and championships. The rest of that stuff is meaningless.

I would also have to wonder what Bama's recrod would be like if they had to play Florida every year, and both Georgia and Florida, some years. Bama's SEC schedule is a joke.

What does all that blather have to do with recruiting? You should have written: "I didn't like DiNardo's policies."

This year or every year? First, no SEC schedule is a joke. Second, Bama has Tennessee every year. But if it makes you feel better to find any excuse to belittle Alabama, then go ahead.

LSU has Florida every year. Which one would you rather play between Florida & Tennesseee? Bama doesn't play Georgia either this year. Don't know how good they are or not, but UGA beat South Carolina.

Yes, I do think LSU has a tougher SEC schedule than Bama this year. But to say that Bama's SEC schedule is a joke is quite a stretch. It's not an excuse.

Tell me about Saban's recruiting overall at LSU. Especially compared to Didinko.

You actually recruited HS athletes?

If so, not very successfully obviously.
