78-74 loss to Ralph Sampson and Virginia. There were regional (Sweet 16) consolation games through the 1975 season. That afternoon is known mainly for the assassination attempt on President Reagan.

And Rudy Macklin getting unfairly crucified by the media for saying Reagan was no kin of his when they kept asking him his thoughts about the shooting. Macklin was basically saying he didn't have time to worry about the president because he had a game to play. But it wasn't spun that way.

I wish they'd bring them back. I like the idea of more than one team being able to end their season with a win.

This could be why I wasn't even aware such a game was even played until much, much later. It was meaningless anyway after the annihilation by Knight's Hoosiers.

Dude.....
That was in 1986. This was the Rudy Macklin, Howard Carter, Ethan Martin, Willie Sims and Greg" Cookie Monster" Cooke and Leonard " Swat" Mitchell Tigers

They were probably the best team athletically that year, if Dwayne Scales had stayed, I think there would be a banner in the PMAC.

Yep, that team was in the top 5 the whole season and a #1 seed. It was when I very first started following college basketball - 80s college basketball, with the good players staying for 3 or even 4 years, was the shiznitz!

"This could be why I wasn't even aware such a game was even played until much, much later."

Another reason is that I don't think the game was televised. I think it was played during the day before the evening championship game. Not sure about that, though.

Cut me some slack dude it's been 36 years since I saw the Cookie Man play.

But, that was a TEAM!!!! Even the subs were great like Derrick Taylor. If that team got the other team into running the floor, they had you

Derrick Taylor wasn't on that team. He was still in high school.

Stop. You have totally butchered this whether it was 36 years or 36 minutes.

+1

It's also an amateur athletic tournament. Roll out a podium at the end and award gold/silver/bronze while the gold winner's band plays their alma mater at center court.
