which coincided with being my first game as an LSU freshman. Florida State had gone 11-1 the year before, but at that time they were still growing into a national power. They were thought of like a Boise State type program.

Florida State kicked off out of the endzone and on the first play there was a mix up with Alan Risher and center. Mike Gambrell--I think which resulted in a fumble recovery by the Seminoles. The QB/center exchange plagued that team most of the year.

Florida State scored a field goal after the LSU fumble and wound up winning, 16-0.

the Florida game was like a bad golf joke. Lose to Rice,go on the road to play #19 Florida with a new quarterback, fumble 12 times and ...win 24-7.

It was my first LSU game too. Bill Capece kicked 3 FG's for FSU and my new LSU friends didn't take kindly to my bragging that he was my HS buddy and teammate. I quickly learned how serious LSU fans take their football.

Nah...not at all. There were some great times and great teams/players during the 80's.

Now...that time frame has made me HATE Nebraska for all time, having beaten LSU three different times in New Year's Day Bowl games, but those were great times to be an LSU fan.

Early to mid 90's...yeah, frick all that.
