It means more to an employer. I would venture to guess that employers think that certain degree programs from LSU are tougher and better prepare the student than the same degree programs at ULL. How am I supposed to quantify the beliefs of employers?

You are guessing is correct. 2+2=4. What an employer cares about is this: How can I get the most work for the least amount of money out of this potential employee. Sorry to burst your bubble but that is the reality

Show me where the employer touched you, Joe. I haven't had an employer like that since I was 16.

Maybe for laborers. In most professional fields, "most work" isn't what the employer is looking for. They are looking for an individual that produces quality work, and if they have to pay more for an individual that produces quality work, then they will. Now, the school one attended is not the end all be all in determining the quality of work one might produce, but it is generally a pretty good indicator. This is why I am not nearly as sought after in my field as someone who graduated from an ivy league, or even Texas, Virginia, Vandy, etc.

So you're a shitty employer that doesn't care about his employees?

I'll answer that one as someone that's been around the block. It's just the name recognition & networking outside the state.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but if you referred to your school as UL in a city like Dallas or Atlanta, would someone know you're refering to the university of Louisiana?

That depends on the financial budget of the department or the philosophy of the company. There is always someone more eager to take the job for less money, especially in times like these

Maybe in your field. Cheap labor is fine for some industries, but there are plenty of jobs where cheap labor is often not better.

I've been around the block myself. It is WHO you know, not WHAT you know, NOR the name on the piece of paper that will get you a job

Maybe I'm a little jaded, but the last small business I worked for (in Lafayette) was probably the worst employer I've ever had . I was in management of a company that did over 4 million in sales a year but he acted like he was broke whenever it came to bonuses or benefits while he was buying new cars and boats every year

sorry to hear that. There are tons of assholes in all fields but especially the oilfield in Lafayette and surrounding area. I got laid off from a job with a company that did $180 million a year in Lafayette when oil was $160 a barrel. So say the company wasn't making money so had an across the board cut. Most seniority and most $$$ was given the door. All the while the prick owner was ponying up for 300 acres of nice real estate on the Cade Highway. Trying to keep up with Stuller. But that's ok. I now have the job of a lifetime which fell into my lap. And guess how. From someone I know. Absolutely NO experience in the field.

It's funny how that works . I left that industry that I thought I wanted to stay in forever, got into a sales position in a better industry (wine and liquor) and haven't looked back

And oh yeah , go frick yourself, this is supposed to be a smack thread
