he's talking about Ibarra's replacement during his preview for the second base position. Ibarra wasn't expected to leave last year.

I believe he means Jacoby Jones's replacement

There was a possibility. You recruit these guys (transfers) mid season. PM has said a few times that Hale was here to replace Ibarra at third in case he left. Hale was actually playing 1B most of the fall, but PM moved him to second after a change of heart over Christmas break.

LAST SPRING no one knew Ibarra was staying. If Ibarra had been drafted higher, he was going to leave.

So LAST SPRING a possible replacement for Ibarra was being scouted.

Actually, it doesn't. I think you're trying to force it to mean what you think it was supposed to mean.

I'll try to map this out for any confused guests

Mar-June 2013 Ibarra was on the fence in terms of mlb/lsu
Mar-June 2013 the coaches realized this and went out and got a replacement IN CASE it was needed
June 2013 Ibarra announces his return
Aug 2013 Hale arrives at LSU
Feb 2014 Both players are competing for starting positions

Adam,

Since KR was the 2nd leading hitter in the Fall, why do you think he isn't starting at 2B in place of Hale? Do you think KR will get a chance to DH since he has a strong bat?

He hits from the right side doesn't he?

It's always a lot to ask a freshman to come in and start right away while expecting instant production. Only a select few have claimed starting gigs before spring practice began. Robertson will play this year and by March could be starting, it's one of Mainieri's philosophies of working guys in slowly. I wouldn't look into this more than Mainieri giving the veteran the first nod and going from there.

DH is shaping up to be McMullens to lose; if an outfield spot opens up of course.

MOT, typo thanks for the heads up it's being corrected.

Just because nobody posted in here today, I'll say...

I like Bregman. He makes me feel funny, like when I used to climb the rope in gym class.
