Germans.

FYI - turtle bay will no longer be the host location for the LSU alumni club football watch parties.

The new location is Legends on East 33rd Street just west of 5th Avenue directly across the street from the Empire State Building.

Where's that guy xiv? If I remember right, he's part of the alumni assoc. that puts these things on. I bet he could shed some light on the entire situation.
Ironically, I missed this event because I was at my West Monroe High School 10-year reunion, where I won two awards: Most distance travelled (1,331 miles), and most hair lost. Damn Rodney Reed for holding back and graduating a year later!!!

Here's what I've had explained to me by my fellow boardmembers:

Every game this year has been double-booked by Turtle Bay, who has new owners this year. That is, we who hand out the cups and merchandise constantly have to tell about 150 people per game that we have no idea what "private party" they've come to attend. Something seemed fishy. The Auburn game was rough; it was a big game and a big private party. It was a mess.

Saturday, things escalated when TB turned the LSU/SC sound off and turned on their DJ's equipment, and the DJ played really loud music that made some of our older alumni feel a bit uncomfortable--not to mention that everyone was angry that they had no sound for a game they'd paid $5 to see. A couple boardmembers and management "talked about it" for a while , and we learned that we were becoming the victims of a case in which TB was pushing us aside in a passive/aggressive fashion. We felt that we could finish out the season at TB and go to Legends next year, no harm done, but we need to get out of there asap. TB doesn't like us, and a lot of our alumni don't like the situation there. Too little space, too little seating, too little service. Legends offers more of all three.

I'm going there Wednesday with some boardmembers to check the place out and talk to management about specifics. We're looking to have a lot of fun Saturday!

PS--I have nothing against Turtle Bay. It's their prerogative if they don't want us around for football games. Alumni associations and bars cut ties every year; it's just what happens. I'm actually grateful to Turtle Bay for taking us on such short notice two years ago when we'd outgrown Blondie's.

Regarding subway stops to Legends: Herald Square Stop (B/D/F/N/Q/R/V/W) and the 33rd Street Stop (6). Even Penn Station (1/2/3/A/C/E) is only 1.5-2 blocks away. So, literally any north/south train in Manhattan except 4&5 stops within a couple blocks.

I found it strange that TB didn't have a single TV upstairs on the USC-OSU game during our NT game.

Did you guys used to go to Blondies on the East or Blondies on the West? Curious cause I know that the big X goes to the West side and OSU still goes to the east side.

I'm not sure; I think it was on the East side. I moved to New York right before our first season at Turtle Bay.

1) Turtle Bay sucks. A lot. That whole frat row scene in that area of 3rd Ave. sucks. I know nothing about Legends, but anything away from the tools that fill the bars in that area is a good move.

2) My cousin also went to West Monroe HS and is graduating from Columbia this semester.

Yeah, right before the 4th quarter of every game this year, I'd check my watch and ask my buddy "What time is it?" to which he would respond, "According to my watch, it is currently douchebag o'clock."

After 10 at Turtle Bay, it's all frat guys and big fat asses wearing TapOut shirts.

Nice.

I've been in NYC 7 years now. I quit going to the UGA watching parties or any sports bars for CFB games a few years ago. No one in NYC knows how to do CFB Saturdays right, including the people that run those watching parties most of the time. The TVs are always on the wrong games, all set to the biggest game, etc. I got sick of dealing with stupid NYC sports bar bartenders that couldn't tell you the first thing about CFB.

Now, I either fly to the games or I'm at home with the flat screen, ESPN Gameplan, and any friends that want to join me. I also got Slingbox and Sling Mobile once I got married because when I was single I could make sure no one distracted me from Noon till 2AM (or whenever that crappy Fox Sports Network Pac 10 game ended), but once I got married I started getting dragged to fonking bar mitzvahs, weddings, and other functions by yankees who don't care about CFB. And if it's a big game, I don't give a fonk about being the jerk at the table watching the CFB game on his phone. They can learn to get their priorities straight if they have a problem with it.

How big is the alumni group in NYC? Even though it's far, I imagine a lot of people end up there.

What cities outside of LA have the biggest alumni population? Houston, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin, NY?

It's well over 600.

Houston and Dallas are bound to be the two biggest out-of-state LSU cities. After that, tossup.

I'm going to be in Bergen County, NJ for Thanksgiving and I was counting on two things:

1: My cousin Joe coming into the city with me to watch the game at Turtle Bay and
2: A startling lack of "frat guys and big fat asses wearing TapOut shirts"

My cousin will now be in South Carolina with his wife, so I'm stuck finding a bus/train to take me to you guys or finding another option (like sitting on the couch screaming at the tv and frightening my other cousin's three young kids).

Is it worth it to go through the hassle of getting my coonass into the city alone to find Legend's?

I've made the drive from maryland to NYC several times to watch the game with the NYC alumni group....and it is a fun group to watch a game with (I normally sit with the Jack Daniels' shot group up front)....

You could see the changes the new management was making during the Florida game....and I personally thought they sucked....

the best description of downstairs turtle bay came from a guy presently at lsu....

"turtle bay has the lamest pickup scene in manhattan"

don't know if i'll be back in nyc this season unless it's for the sec championship....but if you're ever in nyc when an lsu game is happening this is the group to watch it with....

YES.
It's actually easier to get to this place than it was to get to Turtle Bay. If you can get to Hoboken, NJ and jump on the PATH train to 33rd St. Its 1/2 block from the station.
