Are they retiring the number or just the jersey
IDK, it would make more sense just to retire the jersey.
Regardless, ring of honor dammit!

they are just retireing the jerseys as a symbol so players can still wear their numbers.
I think they should take the top 7 LSU football players of all time and make that row right under the sweets where they put Cannon's number LSU's row of fame

Casanova was a three-time All-American (LSU's only one), was proclaimed the "best player in the nation" on a SI cover, was a 4-time Pro Bowler in the NFL, quit the NFL while still in his prime to become a doctor, and later became a state senator.
I can't say I know him well, but I can tell you that he was a good state senator for his district who always did what he thought was right. He wasn't concerned about getting reelected, because he never planned to serve more than one term because he really didn't like politics -- he only ran because Brinkhaus was involved in the FBI gambling scandal and really needed to be replaced.
His impact has gone way beyond one or two good seasons at LSU. I don't know if that can be said about the other names that people have suggested in this thread.

There's about 10 guys that deserve it more than Dorsey. Off the top of my head, I'd say Kevin Faulk, Alan Faneca, Bert Jones, Tommy Hodson, Charles Alexander, and Josh Reed.
Faneca was an animal at Guard; Reed was stellar at wide-out... and I don't necessarily fault them for skipping their senior years... but when it comes to retiring jerseys, that's the highest honor we have... and I'd prefer that recognition go to players who stick around and fully earn their scholarship.
Just my opinion!

Perfect example of ignorance and youth.

Glenn Dorsey set the standard for DL at LSU.
People such as himself and Kyle Williams rasied the bar that every other DL that plays for LSU, from today till LSU football dies will try to reach.
Kevin Faulk doesnt have that inpact on the RB position as a whole...sorry.

Dorsey is the most decorated defensive player in LSU history. Short of winning the Heisman, a virtual impossibility for a defensive player, there is nothing Dorsey did not accomplish as a player at LSU. He's worthy of a retired jersey.
There's no one I loved more as a player than Mawae though.

But if you must, Alexander, Dorsey and Faulk are at the top of my list.

Steve Van Buren, Y.A. Tittle, and maybe Mike Anderson or Gaynell Tinsley need to be on that ring of honor along with Alexander, Dorsey and Faulk.

He has been an NFL elite for many years now.
