if he started a game 2 days before, and we need 3 or 6 outs to win an elimination game, I don't think Mainieri would rule out throwing him. Hell, Anthony prob shouldn't have been pitching in the CWS last year because his arm was tiring, but what are you going to do, you have to throw him.

Mainieri will be very careful this year. Ranaudo has the million dollar arm and he doesn't want to get labeled as a coach that ruins great arms. He is a great recruiter, and he doesn't want to mess with that.

I think if it comes down to a world series game, he would chance it

I think LSU has a great shot at repeating in Omaha with Ott moved into a starting role. Otherwise I can't see them getting out of a super regional with what they have going after Ranaudo.

Based off of what? One weekend they lost 2 out of 3 at Auburn? It happens. If Ranaudo can win on Friday, then you rely on your bats, defense, and your bullpen to win 1 of the next 2. That forumla has worked very well so far this year.

Teams don't get to Omaha and then try something that they haven't done throughout the year.

Arkansas tried it in game 2 vs LSU last year.. started their closer after Keuchel had to pitch extra innings vs Virginia to advance.. I don't remember exactly, but I don't know if their closer even made it past the first inning.

I'm basing it off the notion that putting your best pitchers on the mound gives you the best chance of winning.

Matty Ott pitching as a starter in the college world series is a legitimate argument........one that makes some sense considering the circumstances.......

Matty Ott pitching as a starter this weekend doesn't make that much sense considering you are trying to find that guy in Matulis and Bourgious.

There's your answer. But also, that was Arkansas' fourth game of the CWS. Coach Mainieri might get desperate when running out of arms, but Ott won't be the #2 starter.

Yea I was kinda helping your statement saying that you don't change something that late in the year without trying it during the season.. and used the Arkansas example.. their closer last year wasn't as good as Ott but he was a pretty good closer still.

theres a simple solution to that.. win.. don't put yourself in a desperate 4 game situation.

Arkansas disagrees. LSU beat them 2 out of 3 without Ranaudo.

Perhaps but not necessarily. LSU has played one series against a team that could out slug them and we saw what happened. Auburn took two of three. LSU's bats didn't go cold they were simply out hit that weekend.

just curious, what were you saying last year when Tennessee, one of the worst teams in the SEC took 2 of 3 from us?

What about a situation in the Super Regional where AR pitches and LSU wins big in Game 1 and Matulis pitches game 2 and LSU loses by a few runs. Could ya'll see Ott getting the start on Sunday being he hasn't thrown all weekend or maybe start JB and bring Ott in at the first sign of trouble?

Its baseball. Things like this happen. But I hope that's not a your reasoning for not wanting to move Ott.

Honestly, I have no idea what I said following that series. Ranaudo had a very poor outing on Friday if memory serves me and so losing two of three after that was not so unexpected.

Nope, LSU got beat by Nicholls, and everybody panicked. LSU scored about 20 runs on Tennessee on Friday night, and everybody relaxed. UT won the next two games.

A couple of errors late in the Saturday game by Schimpf cost them the game and on Sunday Tenn knocked Ross (and Byrd I think) around the yard. Cain came in and pitched well, but the lead was insurmountable. After this, Nola became a starter.
