LSU NC License plate

We have a campaign in progress to get an LSU specialty plate made for NC. Right now several of our rival SEC schools have one available but not LSU, so we are trying to get that corrected. We need a minimum of 300 applications to get it done. It costs about $31 to submit this - if you have 2 cars, you can submit one for each.

To sweeten the pot, we have been able to get a deal where 2 tickets and a parking pass for the LSU vs Arkansas game on Sep 23, 2023 will be raffled to one applicant. ONLY the first 300 will be eligible.

Please pass this on to any LSU fans you may know in NC - it's not just an alumni thing, any LSU fan can benefit from this for decades.

Thanks for posting this. Do you know the yearly cost of the LSU license plate? Is it more than the normal NC plate?

Can a proactive FL resident start this up too?

Met some guys at the 2019 LSU Bama game in Birmingham who were getting a petition signed for Alabama LSU plates. May or may not have signed twice.

I take it the license plate cost in my NC registration would be increased $ 30.96 more per year? And this cost will not be applied to my credit card until you have 300 applicants and this project has been approved by the NCDMV?

We don't have a completely final design but it's likely to be the base NC "First In Flight" plate with an LSU letter logo on the left, similar to most of the existing school specialty plates. (We tried HARD for the Tiger Eye logo but it didn't work out.)

As far as I know the ongoing yearly cost would be the yearly specialty plate cost of $30. But after we get this done, you don't have to maintain/renew it after the 1st year.

I met Gil, or the "Crazy Cuban", in Charlotte for the Citrus Bowl, and he was talking about this very thing. His version has the tiger eye above the LSU letters. Sadly, I can't sign it, since I live in GA. But I'd like to see it get through.

Gil is quite the character, we’ve tried to get this license plate done in the past but just haven’t had enough support across the state.

Haha, Gil is a regular at our crawfish boils, definitely a character, he is a DIE HARD LSU fan. I could tell a couple of stories with him, one involving Dale Brown.

Yeah we tried years ago, and that was the tiger eye logo but we didn't get as much push behind us as this one.

Thanks. Made a purchase.

Just moved to NC over a year ago. I hope this works out.

Do you have an update on the number of applicants? Are we close to 300?

Baton Rouge is keeping the count, I only get it every week or two. We need a push as it was about halfway there late this week. We need 300 ideally, but what we actually have to do is send a check to NC DMV with the form for a new specialty plate. If we get close there might be a way to just donate to close the gap.

300 is not bad. Texas wanted like 1900 to start LSU plates. A couple of alumni paid the cost difference to get them started.

LSU was the first non-Texas school plates in Texas.
