re: No news, rumors, ideas, "inside reports" about Basketball coach search?

Anybody who comes here with sources will be chastised and told they are a idiot and don't have a clue what they were talking about. So why do it, if you actually know something?
Now, it may also be because so few people actually even care to know, that chances are the few that do don't post here.

I'm going to chalk it up right now to the fact that most of the presumed candidates are still playing (either in the NCAAT or NIT). Cuonzo Martin is the only hire thus far and I doubt he was ever on LSU's radar.
Today we have several potential candidates (realistic or not) in action:
Brey at ND
Keatts at UNCW
Forbes at ETSU
Collins at NW
Davis at MTSU
Williams at Va Tech
Musselman at Nevada
Prohm at ISU
Depending on who among that group loses (at least one will because Iowa St. and Nevada play each other), I anticipate we may begin to hear a little bit more starting tomorrow.
Illinois is purportedly thinking about throwing a shite load of money at Tony Bennett (UVA). Everyone thinks NC State has Archie Miller as their top guy. The two wildcard right now are Cal and Washington. Musselman may now very much be in the mix for those two.
Indiana hasn't let go of Crean yet, so I still think LSU should be in pretty good shape to really go after whoever they want.

That's because it's Kermit Davis or Musselman. Our new coach is in the NCAAT. Alleva isn't searching for shite and we should know that by now. MTSU might get an upset or two or might lose in the first round but Alleva will play this like Orgeron. They will talk about his past and how he's progressed as a coach and learned things.
Before you judge let this sink in. We are not a top basketball program. We aren't getting a coach K status guy. I love what he's don't at MTSU . They have half the talent we have and blow our arse out. He brought and exciting up tempo pressure style defense over there and I'll take it. Anything is better than Jones and Trent Johnson. Hell I hope he brings his staff.
Now if we can get Musselman hell yes take him. If not frick it take Kermit.

The reason why i don't think it's Musselman because Nevada was prestigious in basketball not too long ago. Look at that one year turnaround . He can pull players from top prep schools in that area. Musselman is building something special over there in a conference he can dominate.

Dumb thread. Alleva said in his presser and letter that the search won't really begin until after the season is over and the coaches worth looking at (the ones still playing today and tomorrow) aren't busy. Now through the end of the month is the time for wild speculation, we won't have any leads until April.

Just saw that. Thanks for the update. That changes A LOT. Indiana is the clear cut #1 job available. I bet that starts to speed the process up. They are probably going to move in order to get their guy nailed down. The other schools may move quickly in order to keep Indiana from taking their top candidate

Unless it's Billy fricking Donovan, if LSU waits until April to hire a coach the Alleva ought to literally be kicked in his arse on the way out the door. NC St., Cal, Washington, Illinois, likely aren't waiting until April to hire their guys, and I doubt (unless something unexpected happens) that LSU is hiring someone who will take their team to the Final Four.
Everything gets real TODAY!

Musselman is pac12 bound IMO
The "top" coaches on our radar are currently playing or preparing to play in the tournament. Give it a couple weeks and expect it to heat up final four week if not slightly sooner.
And if football has taught us anything, it's that no leaks=good thing.

That doesn't mean LSU can't be. There are PLENTY of resources here to be a great program (Money and talent)

Is this the bar? Just be better than complete dogshit?
Davis would be right up Alleva's alley because, despite having good success at MTSU, the only power 5 school who might consider him is LSU. He's been at MTSU 15 years for a reason. He's not a "young up and comer".

Everyone but our admin sees this as a disaster. I think I would rather Stansburry than Davis

quote:yep, it seems you are correct. It is sad but true. I remember a lot of speculation, plane tracking, etc the last time around but the silence this time around is deafening. It also tells me that because there is no interest that we will get who we deserve. It will not be a homerun hire, it will be another ho hum individual that will need to be replaced in a few years.
The silence by the administration, those on the inside, and us as fans clamoring for tid bits of information speaks volumes as to how much we all have become apathetic toward the basketball program in general. Obvious we just don't give a fu*k

Is Aleva being that discreet or is there just very little interest in this search, this time around?

too many younger better HC's out there to settle for Davis or Stansbury
Posted on 3/16/17 at 1:13 pm to BilJ
Alleva has shown he's willing to be pushed.
I've always liked Kermit but I really want someone with no ties here. And that includes Musselman who I also like.

So basically the update is....
Prohm might be expensive and LSU doesn't want to pay
Musselman wants a bigger job, but with Cal now open, Berkley may be a better place for him than BR
Pitino's son may be an option (despite doing nothing of note at Minn. until this season)
Alleva doesn't necessarily have Kermit Davis at the top of his list, but the PR push from the likes of Seth Greenberg (ESPN), Culotta and T-Bob, presumabaly John Brady, et al has started and Alleva being Alleva will probably listen because Davis would be an easy and cheap hire.
There might be some unemployed NBA guys Alleva could talk to.
This search is looking almost EXACTLY like the efforts that landed LSU Johnny Jones and Ed Ogeron. Interested in bigger names at first....balking when those bigger names have the "audacity" to want big money....people giving letters of recommendation for a guy no other power conf. programs are even or have even considered for their jobs......
I hope I'm wrong, but I'm sure we'll see a press conf. introducing Kermit Davis as LSU's next HC....and the trail of mediocrity continues

Wait I thought we hated leaked information. Makes LSU looks bad I thought. Is a total embarrassment... Right?
