A trophy should have some type of metal on it. That's just a hunk of wood with a shitty fake flower

LSU has a bigger MEANINGFUL rivalry thing going with bama and auburn in the west

I'll give you Alabama, but in the last decade the series record for LSU-Auburn and LSU-Ole Miss is equal.

I'd say anyone putting the Auburn game ahead of the Ole Miss game in terms of importance is falsely inflating Auburn. They've only been nationally relevant 3 times in recent memory. Which is admittedly 3 times more than Ole Miss.

But that's just one man's opinion. I hate losing to Ole Miss more than I like beating Auburn.

If we keep losing to Ole Miss, we'll have to stop dismissing them.

And two of those times they ended up playing for &/or winning a national championship. So I'd say that makes the recent Auburn matchups more MEANINGFUL. Ole miss fell flat on its arse the one time they had a shot at anything against LSU recently.

They should make the loser of the game keep this trophy. Or at the very least, let OM keep it in the years we win.

From 04-08 there wasn't a better series in the country than LSU/Auburn. But that's just not a big enough sample size to make it great.

Hopefully OM gets their talent level consistently higher and it's a great series again. I grew up with parents and grandparents that dismissed Auburn, respected Bama but hated Mississippi.

We never called it the Magnolia Bowl but I like the sound of it. It's better than the names for the Boot and whatever the Red River thing is called this week.

The LSU vs OM series isn't like a high school rivalry with someone who is similar to you competing for the same chicks. It's more of a big brother vs younger brother rivalry. As big brother you want to win just so you don't have to say you lost to little brother, but he is similar to you in a lot of aspects, just not as put together.

Obviously LSU is the big brother in this rivalry, but I consider it a quazi-rivalry because I like to think that every LSU fan hates to lose to OM. It stings because we aren't ever suppose to lose to them, but they aren't that far below us. They just won't be putting it all together anytime soon.

'The Boot' has become an intense rivalry game deserving of a trophy. I, for one, look forward to the awarding of 'The Boot" to LSU at the end of every season. It has become a very intense battle each and every year. Throw out the record books because it is going to be a battle tooth and nail down to the end and the players, coaches, and fans all know it.

Ole Miss does 'bring it to us' every year and seems to give us all we can handle so maybe it is deserving of a trophy also as it is a long standing rivalry.

You're missing the point. LSU's goal every year is a national championship, and the Ole Miss and Arky games are just a means to that end--and LSU plays that way against them.

For Ole Miss and Arky, however, having a trophy to play LSU for makes up for their crappy seasons. The "Magnolia Bowl" and "Battle for the Golden Boot" ARE Ole Miss and Arky's national championship games. They play LSU with a different vigor than LSU plays with, just because getting those inferno trophies means so much to them that they can even show off the trophies at their spring game to make up for having a 7-5 season.

Updated the OP with new picture old trophy vs new trophy. They have a small plaque on the bottom that likely mostly has LSU's name on it...

Ole Miss Fan: "Hey, are you going to watch the Magnolia Bowl"?

LSU Fan: "The what?"

Is there a reason why this "rivalry" game so desperately needs a trophy?

The new Magnolia Bowl trophy looks like a really bad April Fool's joke that was so bad that people actually believed it!

The new Magnolia Bowl trophy looks like a high school shop project that some parent donated to Good Will for the tax deduction.

So this is what we win if we beat a team that has not won the SEC in 41 years and has had more losing records since then than any sec team other than vandy...wow, great. Sure in the 50-66 it was valid, but since about 1970 they have stunk so it is sort of like the Minnesota Ohio st game, one has been and one is....
