Merritt comes to LSU from John Lucas Enterprises, where he served as Director of Scouting/Recruiting. A former walk-on at Towson, his stops include Louisville (G.A., 2003-2005, Director of Basketball Operations, 2005-2006), Hampton (assistant, 2006-2007), Texas A&M Corpus Christi (2007-10), and Arizona State (2015-16).

He's well connected in AAU recruiting scene. Was an Asst. Coach at AZ State before getting fired after getting a DWI. This hire is STRICTLY to help bolster LSU's recruiting, particularly in the Houston area

His story alone is crazy good if you ever get a chance I would recommend anyone check him out. Especially anyone with any dealings in the substance abuse areas or know anyone.
Believe it or not multiple LSU greats in basketball have gone through his program. One of those people that will be a HOF member as a contributor or whatever they call it.
If anyone wants to check out this SI story some interesting tidbits right off the bat.

John Lucas played professional tennis for the New Orleans Nets.
JL also broke Pistol Pete's hs scoring record in North Carolina. He had 401 scholarship offers (350 basketball and 51 in Tennis.)

Huh. TIL that John Lucas played tennis. More surprisingly I learned that there was a professional tennis league and that New Orleans had a franchise. And on that team we're Bjorn Borg and Martina Navratilova.
