but why were new balls not being thrown to the pitcher by the home plate ump?
I don't follow what your meaning is. Who was throwing new balls to the pitcher?

They were coming in from off camera. The home plate umpire was not making the throw.

Obviously someone OTHER than the usual home plate ump... but that's not the point. He was asking why.

But by the looks of the shitty throws, it must have been a "ball girl".

I would have thought something was affecting his sight.....the ump was all over the place calling balls and strikes....worst I've seen in a while

Someone from the lsu dugout was. Instead of the guy on deck giving the ump 3 or 4 balls they would throw them to the pitcher.

Whoever it was, they missed a few times. One time Cotton almost did a barrel roll trying to catch it

I was sitting in the grandstand the entire game and I didn't notice anyone other than the home plate umpire throwing the new balls to the pitcher.

Me too except one time saw the ump walk the ball all the way out to the mound and put it in Nola's glove and say something to Nola. I was so wishing Nola would strike the next guy out.

He was throwing them in initially but at some point he stopped and they started coming in from the third base side of the field.

It was suggested he was injured and that makes sense.

It would most likely been because the Ump couldn't keep the balls dry. If he was injured he could just hand one to the catcher and have him throw it. Catchers tend to be more accurate throwing to the pitcher than the dude last night.

I remember that.

That was when Ross took a foul ball off of his left thigh and the ump was stalling to give Ty a little extra time to walk it off.

I didn't notice that but good point. I'm always appalled at the things I miss when I'm at a game. I don't seem to miss as much detail when I watch on TV. I guess it's because at a game I'm watching it with other people and while talking with one another we miss some of the minutiae.
I'm usually alone and reading the in-game thread when it's on TV.

Holy cow. That article says he is regarded as "a top flight collegiate umpire". He's the worst I've ever seen and he was worse for them than he was for us.

Wrong, it was the old guy that stands behind the gate the ball girls go into....near the visitors dugout (3rd base side). Right on the side of the net.

Well my bad. It look like that but that explains why cotton was chasing balls all over the place.
