read dandy don this am and get their stats.

it seems that their run defense is stout and their pass defense is suspect (have injuries).

it seems that their run game is fueled mostly by their QB and their passing game is suspect.

lastly, it seems they struggle with making TD's in the red zone (which supports the pass weakness numbers).

If you were the HC of LSU, how would you game plan 1)on offense and 2)on defense?

now that it appears we have a QB that can pass, I would exploit their DB's with a lot of passing. since their DL is really good (and our OL is questionable)I would design plays to frustrate their DL (screens, etc)

on defense, i'd sell out of defending the QB run. we looked good in the second half last week on that. our DB's should be able to handle their weak passing attack.

LASTLY, does any of this seem familiar?

Offense: Two RB sets with one motioning and other zone read type play. Throw to flats ALL day. Hitches and curls to WRs

Defense: COVER RPO. Keep one safety near box to help defend QB run. Let Key put his hands in the ground

Their passing defense is atrocious and they have a really talented defensive line.

Teams like Ole Miss are going to eat them alive.

Their cornerbacks are weak, they've given up 20 catches in 2 games to the tight ends, their run defense is stout. It seems the case is closed here.

yes it does. I have to admit that while I was posting I began to think negatively about our past game plans against MSU (and other teams with the same strengths and weaknesses). I am cautiously hopeful that we FINALLY get rid of our "game plan by committee" and let the OC plan his offense. In other words, take what the defense gives you and quit forcing the offense to play to their strengths.

This above all else on defense if their only weapon is a mobile quarterback. Make him look over his shoulder all night with that spy.

We'll more than likely run it into the ground with Fournette and Guice, and make it a close game. I hope I'm wrong and they let Etling come out and get the passing game going early.

The 2 WR, 1 TE pass plays should do wonders this game against their CB's. Keep the running back in the backfield to help block, and pick up any blitzes at the snap then allow him to roll into the flats for last minute checkdowns.

I haven't seen much of that this year. maybe I just need to see film on it but my impression has been that our QB is on his own back there.

I saw a few plays during the Wisky game where Fournette would stay in and at least chip block for BH. I don't remember seeing much of it during the JKST game though, but that may be because our O-line was doing their job without needing extra help.

If we had any type of aggressive passing attack we'd have this thing 21-0 in a hurry. Too bad it'll be more like 10-3 by halftime.

I almost hope we are losing (by a small margin) at the half. that is, if we follow the standard game plan of running into the teeth of the opponents strength. force our coaches to adjust.

Saw an interview with Mullen a day ago, he said they have two starting DBs out for this game, but that he wasn't worried about it because we are run first team.

Sad but true.

Yes, the offense becomes infinitely better once you attack a defense's weakness. Mix up the offense to keep it balanced. The runs become so much more affective. As much as it pains me to say it, it is what Saban has been able to do at that other school. Fingers crossed, and we need to see a whole lot more of what he can do, but Etling sure looks to be comfortable in the pocket. After watching his plays last week, you can see that his eyes are constantly working through his progressions. He is actually reading the defense at the line. It's way too early to say he'll be a star, but in this offense, he seems to be just what they need. We'll see. I just want to see an offense that can move the ball, be fairly exciting, unpredictable, efficient, keeps the D off the field and keeps smiles on the faces of players. I've played on good teams and on bad teams. One thing I can say, it's not easy for all 22 to be pumped up all game when the offense can't move the ball and the D has to win it again. Regardless, I'm always in it to win it for the Tigers.

It's highly likely we will try to run right at there strongest position group per usual . I think it will be a tight 1st half but we will pull away in the 3rd quarter because of a turnover or 2.

We got a good look at what we will face last week against JSU. The QB run will get them into triple digits rushing almost guaranteed. Our defense will be hard pressed to hold them to less than 21 but if they stay sound and TACKLE well the D can hold them to less than three TDs. I would only put a spy on the QB less than half of the time depending on how effective he is scrambling.

Offensively, who can argue with the 2nd QTR from last week.

Hit the TE
A Few screens when they get too aggressive.
Get a few passes to Fournette.
Feed the Buga Beast his 20 carries
Let DE be DE without having to worry about being replaced after his first mistake.

They may have a stout run defense but they're still MSU which means they likely lack depth. A balanced attack will wear out their front 4. I'd test them with some outside runs early in the game. If our tackles and TEs can't hold up then it's to the air and inside run.

Fact: LSU will need to RELY on the passing game. LF will struggle against this defense.

I doubt we score a single TD the entire game if al we do is pound away.

Hopefully our coaches realize this.

I don't know how many game planning meetings you have attended at LSU or any other major college. But game planning by committee is exactly what happens. All of the offensive coaches give their evaluations of the opposing defense, both scheme and personnel and its strong or weak points as it relates to their specialty. They work together to design an attack within the overall offensive playbook that will exploit these weaknesses. Each of the coaches has his input.
The OC does not just go into a secret room and draw up the game plan all by himself.
