He inherited a defending conference champion with a couple of high first round picks and and another who is an SEC batting champion. The team has folded down the stretch, not gotten better. AC may do great things at State, but this season isn't evidence.

Yeah he inherited a team that lost 11 or 12 to the draft and 8 pitchers out for season.

AC really has no excuse for not winning the west with 2 really good hitters and 1 legit starting pitcher

People have been saying all season that their injuries would catch up with them as the season wore on.

And they have caught up. They lost 3 of the last 4 series and they are probably headed to Hattiesburg for a regional. They blew a 3 game lead over the final 4 weekends. Where is the great coaching job to overcome the injuries?

I can understand giving him a pass, but to call what he did this year "great" is disingenuous.

Yeah it's much easier to manage a 22-25 player roster than one with 35 players.

Cohen probably praised AC for really managing to save a lot of money on the travel budget

As competitive as this conference is "losing" a 3 game lead is easy. If LSU had lost 8 pitchers to injury I doubt the team would be above .500 in league play. Lose 10 guys to MLB, lose 8 pitchers, that is an extreme amount of ability to replace with 11.7 schollie restrictions.

I guess that he would have fit right in at the dooody if he would have traded that jersey for a sea shell bra for his lardy man tits?

Do you not know anything about Mississippi State's baseball history?

Hell, they won the SEC LAST SEASON.

....which is why I said NORMALLY, not last year. How many SEC titles has MSU won in the past 20 years?

Just another dumb NCAA rule that was pushed through by politics rather than consideration for the players and their families. These guys should be getting full scholarships.

true enough about the politics but recognize these "politics" are supported by a MAJORITY of schools that are members of this association. the reason is MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. it is nigh on impossible to pass rules that are popular with everyone esp. when you have the "haves" and the "have nots" money wise. womens sports have been accommodated and, due to financial resource limits, that has curtailed spending on men's supports. personally, I don't like that but have to agree it is fair. girls deserve schollies too.

it really has nothing to do with consideration for the players and their families.

the member schools of the NCAA are extremely diverse as to size and financial capabilities. passing rules that are in the best interest of the "whole" and college athletics as a "whole" is a huge challenge that involves many compromises. on an overall basis, I think they do a credible job. perfect? not

There is no question you're right that money motivates the NCAA more than any other outside influence.

The case of limited baseball scholarships was an appeasement to the commissioner of the big 10 who insisted it would produce parity in college baseball. The later starting date was also his brainchild.

I completely forgot about that. the big 10 was pretty desperate when the SEC won 8 straight natties in football and a southern team was winning the CWS every year. it seems to me that the scollie limit did indeed promote parity but it's still parity among sunbelt teams with a sprinkling of "stony brooks" thrown in.

He will likely win SEC coach of the year for what he did with so little. he definitely taught them how to run and their hitting improved tremendously even though Rooker was a good hitter last year. He is about to do something that hasn't been done since the early 80's in winning the triple crown. Nearly the quadruple crown with never has been done.

Then look at the loss of 8 pitchers. That's 8. No cosch in the SEC has done more at such a high level with less talent. LSU and UF was supposed to win.

Dumbasses that don't know baseball make shitty comments like the one here.

none, as they begin demolition of the old stadium today and will rebuild on the same spot.

fwiw, we did build our new stadium in a cow pasture, though.
