Your post is quite accurate.
Thanks.
And I also agree about the city comparison. Did you know there is a casino in Washington, PA.... about 30 miles away?
ALSO: Talk about a problem.
As a kid she wore a LSU cheerleader uniform.
By the time she was 15 she knew the LSU drum cadence.... but still could'nt get in.
My daughter dreamed of playing in the LSU band for years. When she finally applied, there were no openings for her in her speciality..... so
she ended up at WVU. Great music school, band was in desperate needed percussion, skolly was available, so I sadly approved.
She blew them away in summer camp and as a freshman and moved up quick, from quints to lead percussion.
And while I am proud to say she is currently lead percussion, in the symphonic band.... I'm more than terrified that there is a very good chance she'll be the drum major at WVU come September 2010.
She told me she always dreamed of being the drum major a leading the band in Tiger Stadium.
And now..... good god almighty.

My dad is from West Virginia and I have a lot of relatives up there I have been able to sort of get a first hand experience of West Virginia sports.
They are a lot like LSU fans, they are very passionate (almost to an extreme) and definitely support football first. Though, Morgantown is somewhat of a dump, there aren't many large cities in the state and it is mostly known for its mountains, which are amazing.
The stadium is no Tiger Stadium but it is probably one of the top 15 stadiums in the country.
It is defintiely worth the roadtrip.

Never in a million years did I think this was going to happen.
Lois Stanton is the football operations assistant at LSU. When Ashley tried out, she was told that Morehouse and Dietz didn't have a whole lot of percussion room in the band last year, and she was devistated. Thanks to her, Ashley got a late follow up offer to come back and try out, but she was already with WVU in band camp.
When I visited in December, and told Lois about Ashley's success at WVU, She kind of smiled at me.
Somehow...I think she already knew then the game was going to be booked.
In a way.... this sucks. Pretty sure we're going to skull drag them- it may end up a lot like the VT game.
MEMEAUX ASHLEY: Dad's going to be wearing purple and yellow, not blue and yellow. And watching his daughter, (who spent just about every football weekend in her entire life on the LSU campus) get Tigerbaited.
Yeah, I'd call it ironic.

Look on the bright side: WV-LSU might get College Gameday or get broadcast on ESPN.

Morgantown is a dump...
Yeah, yeah. Everybody knows and posts this endlessly. Point is, they field damn good football teams. IMO this is not about tourism, it's about LSU playing quality nonconference opponents.

Chaso, I think if he was in the area, say, behind the old law building, it is a little rough over there.
More on Morgantown.
The town was carved out of the mountains over a hundred years ago. There are a lot places that are worse located in Baton Rouge or NOLA that were "carved out" when Edwards was our governor just 25 years ago.
The high school football and bands in Fairmont, and Morgantown are so home home town USA it's incredible.
Most of the HS games in smaller towns are played at the City Stadiums, like NOLA in the 1950's with Tad Gormley. Alot of the stadiums are pre WWII style, with the concrete, arches... actually really enjoyed that enviroment, although the football was not as big time as LA/TX/FL.
There are 2 shopping malls in Morgantown. There is a Super K-mart. Everything, identical items, are usually 25-30% cheaper than they are in Charlotte.
There's a great little winery called the "Forks of Cheat". Free samples and over 30 different blends. They all tasted the same after like the 15th taste
There are 2 bowling alleys, and two theaters. Rambo played there last summer for about 3 months.
Getting there-- you could fly into the Pitt airport, but many should flying to Charlotte, rentals are cheap... and drive the Blue Ridge up to Beckley, WV, and then head up 79 to Morgantown. About 375 miles. And worth it.

Tigers4,
Skiing will never be comarable to Pack City or Steamboat. But Winterplace has 45 slopes and
Shoesnoe has about 120, and I have in fact skied there with snow half way up to my knees.
Oh-- that all day ticket was 20 bucks, too.

I say after we beat the Mountaineers, we all drive to the New River Gorge Bridge and bungee jump off it.

Really??? You haven't been many places, have you?
I've been to the so-called state of WVA. Yes...it is pretty. Yes, Harper's Ferry is interesting.
But one of the most beautiful places??? Please!

I have a friend in Morgantown who used to be an LSU English instructor. She is now at the U there. She loves it. That's good enough for me to schedule a visit.

Maybe some of you did here the story that several years ago WVU was playing Pitt at Pitt stadium. At one point in the game, the Pitt PA announcer said (over the PA system) that there was a pick-up in the parking lot with a license plate 'EIEIO' had left its lights on....
The PA guy was fired.
But, it is beautiful country up here. I must disagree with you. I live in SW PA and am a huge LSU supporter, and I'll be there.

You can find the good or the bad in any town, any venue if you look hard enough. Do you rememebr the the Pick6s Lee threw last year.... or the GT dawning of a new day experience?
