More Prestigious- SEC Regular Season Title or SEC Tourney Title?

A friend of mine asked me which one is more prestigious.

I answered that a season long title, based on more than 4 or 5 games is more prestigious. However, the tournament title is what technically gets you into the national tournament.

What says the rant?

With 16 regular season titles, LSU has two more than Bama and three more than Florida.

With 11 tourney titles, LSU has three more than Bama and Ms St.

We now lead in both with some breathing room, so in addition to national titles, hopefully we start really pulling away with regular and tourney titles as well. We can add on to the dominance that is LSU baseball.

Most here will say regular season. I know it's not exactly apples to apples, but I would say the tournament only because if this were the NBA or NFL, nobody remembers who has the best record in the regular season. It only matters who won in the playoffs.

Regular season. Being good for 30 games > being good for 4

Yeah, because your 8th guy out of the pen really determines how good a team is.

Give me an SEC championship and I'll be happy regardless of the sport. Winning the tournament is great but it's not on par with being conference champions IMHO.

not saying it determines how good your team is as a whole but, it is a real honor to take the sec tourney.

Okay. That isn't what this thread asks.

its definitely an honor. But not as much of an honor as winning the regular season title.

I consider them to be of equal weight. Win either one, and I will say "LSU SEC Champs!". That being said, I think the regular season title trophy is nicer.

It is tough to equate the two. One is clearly tougher to get than the other, but the latter has the direct reward to the national tournament.

I think the regular season champions should automatically get their ticket punched as well. That being said, I'm sure at least 90% of all of the regular season conference champions make it to the national tournament as well.

It may not show it on paper or be "official"... but you can pretty much say that it's automatic.

Has the SEC champ never gotten a top 8 seed even?

Regular season champs and it's not even close.

Yeah, and if you win the SEC regular season title you are more than likely a national seed.
