More evidence on LSU getting in the playoff

Don't sleep on LSU pulling an Alabama and getting in the playoff without winning its division.
Scenario: Alabama beats LSU head-to-head to win the SEC West tiebreak, but both teams finish with a lone loss on the season. Alabama loses to a Florida or Georgia team with two losses and 10-1 LSU has the best resume of any SEC team, particularly if Florida beats Alabama since LSU beat Florida head-to-head.
Look out, LSU could get into the playoff without winning its division.

Will never happen.
The voters are ultra-sensitive to this now. Therefore, if LSU doesn't win the conference, much less the division, then they will be left in the cold.

orrrrrrr both bama and LSU get into the playoffs with only one loss. possible.

It was invalid when Bama was allowed a mulligan, and I wouldn't want one now under the same circumstances.

Not happening again...because of the voters pulling that shite the first time and giving Bama a mulligan over the Big 12 Conference Champion who also had one loss and the uproar it caused is the very reason we have a playoff system now which is still fricked up with only 4 teams being allowed in with 5 power conferences...
its only a matter of time before each conference give us an undefeated champion and so one is going to have their feelings hurt being undefeated and being left out...

Why do you all hate this? I mean Jesus a one loss LSU team deserves to be in the playoff. Especially with it being on the road to bama

Kinda different...fours teams have to make it...if a one loss LSU team is deemed to be in the top four then you take it.

It's a ridiculous argument now, as we don't know the status of any other teams.
Sure, a one-loss to Bama LSU team would look great, but what if TCU runs the table and beats Baylor by one point in Ft. Worth? Baylor has been ranked higher than LSU all year, so their case could be made to go over LSU.
If OSU and Clemson stay undefeated, along with Either TCU or Baylor, then that leaves one spot.
The only way LSU maybe gets in with a loss is if they lose a very close game to UF in the SECCG. Even then, it would also depend on Stanford, and maybe Utah. If Stanford runs the table, then they make a very compelling case. And I hate to say it, but ND might also look attractive to people, especially since their only loss would have been to Clemson.
In other words, it's still way too early.

What's more ridiculous is an undefeated LSU team being anything but unanimous #1 in the polls. The hell with The Ohio State university.

You mean as of today?
If so, then I think the Coach's Poll has the top-5 about as accurate as you can get it when dealing with a lot of people and their prejudices.
OSU will stay #1 until they get knocked-off due to them winning the NC last season, #2 Baylor has looked like the best team in the country for most of the year, #3TCU...well, TCU is getting love because of the offense, but that D will do us in.
LSU is in a good spot at #4, especially with Baylor and TCU being above them.
#5 is a close one with MSU and Clemson in my mind, and this is where I think the coach's got it wrong, as Clemson has looked better than MSU.

Let's just beat Alabama and not worry about the stupidity
Posted on 10/25/15 at 5:34 pm to billf7095
Doesn't the playoff committee weigh in at some point with a preliminary 4?
Posted on 10/25/15 at 5:37 pm to GermantownTiger
Not impossible if some more teams lose.
Stanford won't lose again.
Stanford won't lose again.

More likely if LSU loses a close one to bama and bama wins the SEC. If we win out We would need help but would certainly be the most impressive one loss team. I would rather the committee see an LSU loss to a playoff bama ( at there home) than a bama not in the playoffs. It actually very possible.

"What if" scenarios are stupid...
"What if" scenarios having LSU lose to 'Bama are really really REALLY stupid!

Florida would have to lose to FSU and then beat Bama for all that to happen

By the way, divisions make no sense in a college playoff era. Why in the world do the SEC East and the SEC West need to exist? I'd get the NCAA rule requiring divisions eliminated -- right now divisions are required to play a conference title game -- eliminate all divisions instead and take the top two teams from every conference.
It makes particular sense in the SEC, where you could eliminate the necessity of needing to play all five teams in your division and instead play three yearly rivals and rotate through the rest of the conference with five additional games every year. This way every team in the SEC would play every other team in the SEC every two years. This would also mean that every SEC team would play every other SEC team in home and homes every four years. So instead of, for instance, 12 years passing between Alabama going to Georgia or vice versa, you'd play every team home and away every four years.
