What good would it do for him to say his DC's are terrible? Will that change the way the team plays the rest of the year? Also, I know he's stubborn, but he also wants to win and he knows the D is not playing to potential. I think he ends up replacing them, just depends if it is before or after National Signing day

miles is not that stupid, he knows there are issues. it seems to me he's trying to put an optimistic look on things and trying to remain confident and positive for the sake of the players.
