Does Saban's two years at Miami and his first year at Bama make him "below average"?

Saban sucked at Miami. If you want to compare the NFL to college football records than have at it. Saban is a great college coach, a below average NFL coach. He lost the 2007 Bama team as many of their fans would tell you. They don't have those discipline problems anymore though.

His 1st year at Bama they were rebuilding, and they certainly were not a good team. So yea, I'd say Bama was an average team.

Definitely the same situation though. You really didn't think that was a good point, did you?

What part of this do you disagree with? Explain in detail please.

He has made poor choices in recruiting, coaching hires and game management.
Every College coach in America has made poor choices in recruiting & Game management. UAB? That is the University of Alabama Birmingham beating LSU in Tiger Stadium.

Payton - 69 Games: 42-27 *2 Winning Seasons, 1 losing season & 1 8-8 season.

NFL =/= college

Do you really believe that Miles is a better football coach than Payton? Winning in the NFL is a lot harder than winning in college football

Yes, and his record shows that.

Well, I guess it really is much harder to break out the 'ol American Express Card and go buy any player you want, than to convince a recruit to come play at your school & get an Education, while playing Football.

this is just full of stupid.

About Miles' record, how many of those wins have come from beating the crap out of terrible teams(ULL,Tulane, insert non-football school, etc)?

About buying players on a credit card, are the Saints the only team allowed to do this? If anything, we are at a disadvantage because we are a very small market for an NFL team.

Congrats to Tome Benson for buying a Super Bowl winning team. And to Sean Payton for knowing in what general direction to lay down the credit card. tear..

Urban Meyer 57-10 (1st 5 yrs)
Joe Paterno 51-13 (last 5 years)
Larry Coker 53-9 (1st 5 years)

This is just a taste. Two are great coaches, two are impostor coaches.

Average in the NCAA is 8-9 wins each year, that is just a fact of the 12 game schedule.

Saban has coached 14 seasons of NCAA ball. He has won 8 or 9 games in 5 of those seasons, "less than" 8 or 9 games in 5 other seasons, and "more than" 8 or 9 games in the remaining 4 seasons. He is 124-50-1, for an average of 8.85-3.57. He has won several conference championships (4), and of course 2 BCS championships (and at 2 different schools).

Miles has a very similar resume. He is 79-36 over 9 seasons. That is an average of 8.78-4. From a pure win/loss ratio, that is statistically insignficant (less than one game shift, by either coach, over the career is the tipover). Certainly Miles has not won 4 conference championships, but Saban has coached 5 more years than Miles, and 3 of his championships have come in the last 5 years of his career, likewise for his second BCS championship.

You Miles "Haters" are free to dislike Miles for his hat, for making the occasional dumb decision during a game, kicking a player off the team would have all but guaranteed 2 to 3 more wins over the past 2 seasons.

But DON'T pretend that there is some objective evidence that stands for the proposition that Saban (or Meyer for that matter) is a "significantly better" coach than Miles.

There isn't.

Miles first 3 seasons: 34-6
last 2 season: 17-9

It is clear what the difference is between the two. Players.
