This is a gimmick.
not much different that Auburn's play where the ball is snapped and no one on the line moves, or the half-huddle/rush to snap play, or the goofy extra point thing they do.

Gimmick...
1. something designed to attract extra attention, interest, or publicity
2. any clever device, gadget, or stratagem, especially one used to deceive
But I'm not really using the term "gimmick" in a derogatory manner, but these plays typically succeed when the defense is fooled, not simply because the offense lined up and won the play. In cases where the defense sniffs the play out, it typically goes no where.

Under a broad enough definition a play action pass is a gimmick.

Quite often a defensive player who "sniffs the play out" then finds himself tackling the guy without the ball because the QB pulled it. It's more that, where the offense makes the wrong read, or is too slow to make the read, the play goes nowhere.

My ideal LSU offense would be something like a blend of the styles of Miles, Malzahn, and Jim Harbaugh. JH mostly because of the way he uses TEs. Neither Miles or Malzahn involve the TE as much as I'd like.
But it would never involve JJ RUNNING THE OPTION!!
