Why do most people assume Les will only coach a few more years? He is a little younger than Saban and a heck of a lot younger than Spurrier. There are a lot of coaches older than him out there. Just wondering if he has made comments our if people just pull his near retirement out of their butts.

Miles is still a quality coach and leader. He's up there w Saban, Meyer, Bowden, etc. We just need a few decent breaks in any one season (along w beating Ala.) and we are in the spotlight once again. He's the best recruiter in the business - he just doesn't have the financial backing like Ala. He can stay as long as he likes as far as I'm concerned. I like our chances.....

Most of those guys live to coach, and with the exception of Spurrier, don't seem to enjoy life. One of the major "criticisms" of Miles is that he seems like a well-balanced guy who prioritizes his family above the job; it wouldn't shock me if he retired with plenty of time to spend with his wife in an active retirement. I could see him living the dream, traveling etc. Saban, on the other hand, might shrivel up and die within a year of retiring.

Spurrier might be a good mentor for Miles, show him how to keep enjoying life while still coaching

Oh, I'm a huge fan, maybe even to a fault. Just wondering why so many assume his retirement is close.

I don't see what Saban's or Spurrier's age has to do with anything, but...

That said, Miles does not appear to be one of those guys that lives to coach or coaches to live. And, if we are going to compare, then Miles is light years the family man than either Saban or Spurrier, and I think that will factor into his decision. Smacker still has a couple of years left at UT, Manny will be in college, and he can watch Ben and Macy grow-up. After the loss of his mother this year and his sister a couple of years ago, I would think that family means even more to him now.

For as much as people slam the man on here, I think what he wants to do is get the program back on solid footing, which might be one reason he seemed so pissed about Chavis leaving, and then make his exit.

I don't know what Les's thoughts are regarding how much longer he wants to coach. But at some point it inevitably shows up on the horizon. There's also what's known as the "ten year rule."

I think he's not going to push himself to coach 4-5 more years. He's a family-oriented guy. I think the grind is hard on anyone. I can see him stepping down in 2-3 years. I'm NOT saying he should.

He will not retire before passing Cholly Mac's win total.

Don't know about Saban's family but Spurrier's been married to the same woman for 40+ years and has a son on staff with him (I think). I don't think he's slacking on the family part.

IMO, Les needs to catch his second wind here. What he's trying on O isn't working and he needs nothing short of a paradigm shift.

Good thoughts. The stuff about him seeing more to life than coaching is true and will probably play into the decision.
