I always felt "starter" on our defense is kind of a bullshite term.

Players rotate in and out depending on the package and team we play. Just like our base defense under chavis was a 4-3, there were some games the majority of snaps didn't have 3 linebackers on the field.

Yeah but he wasn't the guaranteed third CB even. We would slide Mills down, and Dwayne Thomas got a ton of snaps until he got hurt this season.

He was a contributor, but he didn't start a full season.

thats not true

he was here 4 years and started like 10 games.

Thats not really half.

Nowhere did I say he started in half the games he was on the team.

He started in games the past 3 years, which is half of 6...the 6 was just the span that sounded correct anyway, its likely lower.

My point is that he has been a staple in our defensive backfield for most of the time we have labled ourselves DBU, yet our fans seem to not think much of him.

Agree with you and a couple other posters. Collins has been a good player, and I thought he was very good last year.

I think a few plays here and there from his first couple years have stuck in people's minds. But every DB gets burned. White got burned last year, Mo Claiborne and PP both got burned at times, etc. Perhaps the one thing he lacks/lacked was enough highlight reel plays & interceptions to offset the stigma of the few bad plays he gave up. That, and there's always some 5 star in the defensive backfield who is the fan favorite, which isn't bad, but tends to make Collins' good work go a little more un-noticed.

And if Collins was as good at sticking to his receiver as GFunk suggests, then that's especially impressive when considering how little pressure we put on QBs the past couple of years... but that's a topic for another thread.

Don't get me wrong, I like Jalen... But I think mid 3rd is as high as I'd draft him. That's not an insult either... Just based on what I saw on the field this past season
