Men's BB Conspiracy Theory

Our team is bottom of barrel next couple of seasons. After three seasons of being bottom of league and CMM's buyout being somewhat reasonable, CMM is fired.
Meanwhile, in Lake Charles last few years, General Wade is being paid under the table and netting what he would have made at LSU. The powers at be know they need to keep their guy in the mix and keep all the revenue in the state ; this was a way of doing both. Though men's BB suffered, McNeese men's BB and LSU football benefited with Wade's early firing and situation with NCAA.
Fastforward, Wade is fresh off a deep NCAA tourney run with McNeese and is a key target for many coaching searches. Wade knowing he would have to pay back any under the table money if opting for something other than in Louisiana, heads back to BR, staying in Louisiana. He re-signs with LSU, this time to a lifetime deal.
Fans are very happy with the development, but still can't fathom why they put up with such ugly and sloppy play last few years under their failed coach.

I love The General fan fiction. Most positive thing going for the program right now.

Does it hurt to be this dumb?

Woodward would NEVER hire WW back...never.
I hope WW does well at McNeese, but a deep NCAA RUN WITH McNeese is not possible.
I'll be pulling for McNeese but I will be attending and yelling for LSUMBB as I have done for decades.

I wish we still had Wade too, but come on man

Woodward did not like Will Wade. Not just as a coach but as a person and other people in the athletic department felt the same way.
As long as Woodward is the AD Will Wade will not coach at LSU and I don’t see Woodward going anywhere anytime soon.

why would he have to "pay back any under the table money"?
If there's a clause in the contract that demands it, then it's not under the table. If there isn't, then he wouldn't be required to pay it back and the only way LSU could enforce it is to sue for it which would doom the program.

Better theory.
McMahon is not much better next season and it becomes clear to all the program isn't going anywhere under the current regime. With reality setting in, "big game hunter" Scott does what he should have done this season (and maybe wanted to, but couldn't) and makes a clandestine call call to Oxford, MS to let Chris Beard know his penance for his sins has come to an end and LSU wants him to be their HC.
Beard hangs up the phone and thinks..."I took Texas Tech to the national championship game in 3 years. I built a Final Four contending team at Texas in year 2. What in the hell am I doing at Ole Miss as the 8th highest paid coach in the SEC, behind a bunch of guys who have never played for a championship, making $1.5M less than I was making last year?"
He then picks up the phone, calls Scott back and says, "you give me an extra $1M per year, I'll pack my bags, leave this crazy broad here for Lane Kiffin to deal with, and head down I-55, today!!!"
5 years later a packed PMAC crowd roars during a half-time celebration where the facilities crew removes the "Brown-Gunter Court" panel from the floor and replaces it with a "Beard-Mulkey Court" panel. All while a sad group of former Board of Supervisors members look on.
