Maybe we underestimate Etling

I was just taking a look at what Etling did on a per game basis as starter. 60% 202 yards per game. But remember he didn't play the first game, didn't start game 2 and we lost a game off the schedule through the Florida mess.
If you extrapolate Etling's per game numbers as starter in 2016 into a full season+bowl (13 games), it's a 60% completion rate 2,630 yards and 13 touchdowns.
If you extrapolate his stats from the games after Miles/Cameron were fired his 13 game stats based on average numbers (211 ypg)... 61% 2,746 yards 13 touchdowns.
If somebody told me Etling would throw for 2,750 yards in 2017, I'd be thrilled with that. Well...the good news is that's what he was doing under O/Ensminger in 2016 while largely still running Miles/Cam's playbook. Maybe there's reason for optimism with an Etling/Canada pairing.
BTW: Peterman's 2016 stats.. 60.5% 2,855 yards.

Hodson did all that and made 1st Team All SEC in his Senior Year and LSU went 4-7. Takes more than an a QB!!

But seriously, Etling can have a successful season statistically but I think it's unreasonable to expect him to throw 300+ yards every game. He's not that kind of quarterback (Mett).

All LSU has needed for the past five years was a QB. Don't think any of the other positions on the field were much of a problem.

Gumps tell me he is horrible, but they think Hurts is all world.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard on this board ...
All we need to get to the Title Game is a QB that can manage the game with no turnovers
Now we have one...maybe the first since Matt Flynn. Let's see.

I think you are severely underestimating the value of Steve Ensminger. Nevertheless, optimism for next season oozes.

He can't pass downfield and that'll probably cost him the starting spot once teams shrink the field.
Those stats are nice, but the one that matters is he barely hit 100 against Bama. That's the problem. If he improves his downfield accuracy, he may stand a chance. If not, we'll see someone else.

Sure, his yardage is solely dependent on his play and not the other 10 guys. Ya gotta face the fact Bama's D was far superior to anything in NCAA football.

Ever consider that it may be product of the weak and predictable offensive game plan under Les?

He's got the mental acuity you need to bea qb but doesn't have the strongest arm
In the Canada offense he won't need a strong arm

Exactly by that dudes logic Leonard Fournette isn't very good. Etling sure does bring out the ignorant fans in droves.

Those people are called idiots and represent the worst of the fan base.

You live in Alex, I live in hell. They were talking Heisman most of last season.

I like what he can do with his feet, but he needs to stop getting destroyed

Hopefully after an offseason with Etling, our very talented receivers can benefit from the continuity, finally get their timing down well, and maybe we won't have as many terrible dropped passes this year too.
