Walter Nolen would have been a good choice to plug and play, Question was of course $Money$ Should LSU have come up with the money to essentially pay him to play. He is a proven commodity for sure but at what price is he not a good choice. Kiffin bought his services so i guess he thought it was a favorable get.

It’s been pointed out that he grew up pretty close to the OM campus & they’ve got a lotta potential next year so it’s probably got more to do with that than just the bag but im sure the bag didn’t hurt!

anted (past participle) of ante = showed him the money!
I am not judging him, Just questioning should we have paid the money. Word was, true or not he wanted 35K up front for a visit.

How do you know we didn't?

I know this is crazy, but maybe he just wanted to be at Ole Miss.

People in these discussions always assume that it's just an NFL free-agent deal, where you just pay them and they come. It's not like that at all.

Perhaps LSU could've gotten him with a larger check, but he's from that general area and obviously wanted to go home because it was basically a done deal when he hit the portal.

LSU may have tried to get involved and been unsuccessful. Or not.

We weren’t giving a DT $1 million and reports are that’s the price range he got from Ole Miss.

He's from Olive Branch, LSU was definitely fighting an uphill battle, with Ole Miss less than an hour away.
LSU doesn't do well with Mississippi kids north of Hub City

Remember our Sun belt db group this past season? That’s what our D line will be this upcoming season

We're spending most of our money on replacing our coaches & incoming high school recruits.

Transfers are a distant 3rd for LSU this year. Transfers are the #1 priority for Ole Miss this year, b/c they're going all in for 2024. Ole Miss is also very pedestrian at recruiting high school players.

Ole Miss better at least make the playoffs this year, bc their roster is going to take a big step back in 2025 due to the way they are building their roster for 2024.

Whether it was Nolen or somebody else, the retention approach at DT was an utter failure. Somehow, this staff convinced themselves that both Wingo and Smith were coming back.

Somebody in that building is going to have to perform a miracle when the spring portal window opens.

Good player but still has to go up against an LSU offensive line were most players have been together for 2-3 years
