Dude works quickly on the mound. When he gets the ball, he is ready to throw it. No bullshitting around, no walks to the back of the mound. It's "give me the damned ball so I can hurt someone's feelings again...RIGHT NOW"

Oh ok....maybe not his best....but I think it goes hand-in-hand with the rest of what he does. With how locked in and intense he is, time between pitches might throw off his concentration. I'm glad he gets it and chucks it

He's 100% into the closer role right now. Expecting this out of him in another capacity is foolish, so those wanting him to start are dumb.

It's important for his style, yes

Exactly. If he starts next year, he might have to slow his pace a little. Starts are more of a marathon; a relief appearance is more of a sprint. But for his role now, it fits perfect.

I've said forever college baseball games last too long. Just throw the ball already! And some of the blame goes to batters who step out all the time....but they step out because the pitcher takes too long.

I recall Poche being faster that way last year, but he appears to have slowed down. I wonder if it just happened naturally, it was based on instruction, or I imagined it.

I think he works a little more deliberately, but I don't know why.

Its not really a quality of Hess at all, but I really liked the dull/dark purple laces on his glove. Just something i noticed that that struck me. Geaux Tigers

People aren't wanting him to start this year

But he's absolutely a starter next year

Manieri might start him because the kid really wants to. But his natural role is relief. His velocity doesn't hold up well (cue the knuckleheads who think conditioning is the be all and end all); he doesn't have a third pitch; and he is a dominant closer.

I won't predict what WILL happen, because CPM has to take the kid's wishes into consideration, but I'd bet my last dollar CPM wants to keep him in the closer role.

Okay, I'll predict. Hess starts, the rant is disappointed in his 3.5 ERA, CPM moves him to closer for the postseason

I think the fall practice will have a lot to do with Hess role next year. Will depend on if anyone steps up and becomes worthy of starting, like Walker did this year.

In short, Hess is a mean motor scooter and a bad go-getter

There's nothing absolute about it.
